Best recruiting class since....
I keep hearing how this is the greatest class since 96 or 2008. I dont know. On paper, since I began following recruiting (around 2006) this is the best class OSU has signed. only three 3 stars...wow. I want to know what you think. Don't take in account to how they actually performed once they got in college, because that would be unfair to compare...just how the class looks on paper.

RE: Best recruiting class since....
Having a 4 star average with a full 25 players has only happened one other time: Meyer's 2007 Florida class.
Getting a 4 star average with more than 20 players has only happened 3 other times between all other schools combined: USC twice and Miami once (in 2002).
This is an all timer great class (on paper obviously), not just in regards to Ohio State.

Re: Best recruiting class since....
This a 4.00 star class which is a OSU recruiting record. As far as quality you are talking the best since the recruiting rankings started in the early 90's. It is SHAMEFUL that E$Pin has us second behind everyone else currently, but yet every other major recruiting service has us number one at this time. I AM SO SICK OF THEIR BIAS!!! The good thing is scUM is ranked sixth in their rankings.

RE: Best recruiting class since....
The thing about this class that I love is that the vast majority of oos recruits come from the best football states. Texas, Florida, Georgia, California. You take the best in Ohio and do that, you're onto something special. There will always be misses in recruiting, but kids who were standouts in those states have a much greater likelihood of excelling at the next level. I am always a bit suspect of a 4 or 5 star from a bad football state.

RE: Best recruiting class since....
84 was a great top heavy class Fred. A Carter and Spielman are 2 all time greats and Tupa was an AA punter and decent QB for us.

Re: Best recruiting class since....
being a half full person - if Townsend leaves that will actually make the average above 4 stars.
I rank this class so far as better than 08 but let's be honest it's all in the eye of the beholder.

cincifred wrote: My all-time favorite was '84 (Carter, Spielman, Tupa.....) Mine, too. I was also part of that "class." I just didn't play football. I was in the same dorm freshman and sophomore year as Chris Spielman and a TE who played from that class by the name of Alex Higdon (he actually came on at the end of his time at tOSU, and got drafted by, I think, Atlanta in the 3rd round. Unfortunately, soon after an injury ended his NFL career prematurely). In fact, a guy who would eventually become a very close friend of mine (and still is) was a roommate of Higdon's during his freshman year. Speaking of that, here's a true FUNNY story One night, my friend went out with a different football player to a bar and together they pounded down a "bucket" of beer very quickly before the bar closed. My buddy was so trashed when he got back to his dorm room that he eventually pissed himself while sleeping in the top bunk bed......with Alex sleeping on the bottom bunk, along with a lady friend of his! At one point soon after the "accident," the girl was quoted as saying, "Ew, it's dripping!" I almost peed myself when my buddy relayed this story to me a few years later. He was actually kind of proud of the whole thing. Anyway, it was good for him that Alex was a pretty nice and laid back guy.

Pretty stupid to get all upset about being number 2 to Alabama as well when they have been so dominant and the rankings are meaningless to begin with.

Re: Best recruiting class since....
1996 was a consensus #1 class, so that is the competition. The only star system that I followed at the time was Bill Kurelic's "two-star" system.

The '02 class was amazing... 2013 has the potential, but only time will tell.
(that said, I'm optimistic it will be remembered as one of the greats)

I know how you feel, bgrupy. I also know, under the current regime, how damn happy I'll be when they start beating some of these teams the espin lemmings worship! And, it won't be long I don't think!! bgrupy wrote: This a 4.00 star class which is a OSU recruiting record.
