Re: Johnny Townsend to sign with Alabama?
So tell a guy that has worked his tail off for four years to get on the field while enduring some unfortunate circumstances along the way and now when his best, and mind you final, chance to play comes along he needs to step aside for a kid that isn't even enrolled? Not exactly embracing the "team" aspect in my opinion.
If Townsend really wants to be here then he will come but, he should be the one to wait his turn.

I hope OSU didn't pull his offer. This kid committed in June. It's bush league if Urban did do that. I'd be pissed as a fan and an alum if we start pulling that crap.

If Townsend really wants to be here then he will come but, he should be the one to wait his turn. What are you talking about idiot? This kid Townsend committed in June. We had other recruits who waited until the last minute. If we didn't have scholarships for them, they are the ones who should be on the outside looking in.

At his position, what is Townsend's "get off" time? I hope it's not slower than making a decision on signing day night. He's not exactly a one minute man at this.

Re: Johnny Townsend to sign with Alabama?
Ohio State commit Johnny Townsend ponders personal matter before signing By Brendan Sonnone and Chris Hays| Orlando Sentinel
2:43 p.m. EST, February 6, 2013 Punters do not normally dominate headlines on National Signing Day, but Boone’s Johnny Townsend is the exception. Townsend, one of the top punters in the country, was expected to sign with Ohio State today but an unspecified "family matter" has put his signing of the National Letter of Intent on hold. Townsend's father, Clay Townsend, however, said speculation about any scholarship offer being pulled was "completely false." Clay Townsend said: "Coach Meyer has not pulled anything and everything regarding the scholarship offer remains intact. We just have a family matter that has required extra consideration and he has not signed, but the status of his scholarship is the same." A noon press conference was called at Boone today where Townsend was expected to announce his decision. Instead, he made a statement asking for patience and privacy as he still sorted things out. This came after his initial signing was delayed in the morning. A decision was supposed to be made at 4 p.m., but the Sentinel hasn't heard anything regarding about Townsend's commitment status. Boone athletic director Doug Patterson said the situation is being discussed between the school and the Townsend family. "Right now it's a personal matter between the Townsends and Ohio State and they are working as fast as they can to make sure that any concerns they have is taken care of," Patterson said."They really want to hold off on a binding commitment until they feel 100 percent comfortable with everything from the University."

I believe RBUCC needs to take one for the team and step aside... into traffic.

Why would you want someone to possibly damage their vehicle? AlaBuckeye wrote: I'll second this motion

We all still love him though. He should not be forced to do this, but he will never genuinely do this voluntarily for the university. He knows he's the most historic face of the university (of all living Buckeyes now), so all time and effort he puts in to the university.. he wants to make money out of it (& not lose money from his savings). Simply put, Archie is a business guy. Not a charity guy from his own savings.

Johnny Football's parents at Texas A&M are loaded. Should he give up his scholarship? SwarthyBuck13 wrote: I'm not trying too be a prick but can't Adam Griffin give up his scholly until we free up some room Archies loaded right?

I know Meyer is extremely conscious of oversigning. He does not want to be accused of that, ever. Especially right now when Ohio State has such positive momentum going.
He would rather not take a kid than go over the 82 limit and have people criticizing him and Ohio State publicly.
They never expected to land Wilson, Clark, Elliott and Bell. When they got all four, Meyer realized they were going to be over the 82 limit if they took everyone.
I'm guess he called Townsend and asked him if he could wait until after NSD to make his decision. Townsend was probably upset because he already had a similar offer from Alabama.
My thinking is Meyer expects a few more kids to leave on their own, taking them below the 82 mark. That's when they can officially bring Townsend on board without causing controversy.
Now the ball is in Townsend's court as to whether he wants to trust Meyer that everything will work out.
Again, that's just my best guess but I bet I'm in the ballpark.
If that's the case and Alabama's offer comes without any strings attached, he should go there. I would if I were him. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Plus, football wise, Alabama can offer everything (perhaps more) that Ohio State can. I don't know if academics is also a consideration for him. --------------------------------------------- 'Bama doesn't have the room either. They are now at 96 (including the grey shirt). So if they add Townsend that is 12 over the 85 limit.

According to this, the speculation that his offer was pulled is false. They are dealing w a family matter. this. we already dealt with lots of posters trolling and making up information and spewing it as fact before the truth came out in the case of Wilson, Elliott, Clark, Johnson, etc. This situation is no different. townsend is dealing with a family matter. His scholarship is still there. He will be in this class, just at a later date. Don't be a douche. Give Townsend his family privacy and let him sign at a later date when the family matter has been addressed.

I read what Johnny's family said about his OSU scholly still bring available... i assume that to be true... if it weren't, wouldnt he have already sign elsewhere?? So, whats going? Family said "family issues"... i know its speculative, but what does that mean?? Cold feet? Home sickness? Seperation anxiety? Girlfriend issues?
