RE: Timmons....

The hostility on this board is crazy. Everyone getting stressed over signing day. #ChaseForTheCrystal.

Which brings me to another point: if you had read more than one book in your life (a lame novel Catcher in the Rye, a book I read as a high school freshman) maybe your reading comprehension wouldnt suck so bad. And you would not be so proud of that one book that you embarrassingly use this as a sign on for a football chat board.

Every time I see that lame sign on: ryecatcher, I think "What an illiterate dork." And I think hundreds others think the same thing. When you grow up, you might want to change your signon to something not as lame.

Ryecatcher! bwahahahahahahahahah!

1. Stars only mean something when recruiting. There have been plenty of WRs who came in under Tressel (and who will come in under Meyer) who weren't 5-stars and preformed very well -- well enough to make it into the pros. Ironically, Teddy G was a 5-star (albeit as a CB) who hasn't enjoyed much of a career as a WR, but mainly as a return man... and he wasn't just moved out of necessity at WR -- he wasn't physically as adept at playing CB in college as he was in HS. He fit in perfectly as the KR and as a WR. You talk out of your ass (seeing as you said he was mostly a QB a few days ago until several pointed out to you that his scouting ratings weren't as a QB).

2. Ohio State is a run-based program first and foremost. Always has been, and probably always will be. If you are a 'True Buckeye' then you'd know that. This is not the 'throw first and often' program that some others are (see Louisville's pass offense for an example), which is why the top-rated WRs usually go where they can showcase their craft best.

truebuckeye99 wrote: Ohio State has had a recent history of losing out on the top-rated wide receivers. In the Tressel era, he had ONE 5* receiver commit, and that was Devier Posey. Ted Ginn Jr. was a CB/Athlete who moved to receiver out of sheer necessity. In general, those speed guys are usually also track guys and most of the best track guys are in the South. Our offense isn;t condusive to showcasing receivers also. although that may be a chicken/egg deal (meaning if we had top-shelf receivers, we may feature them more). Anyone, even a recruit, who has watched Braxton Miller can see he is not a particularly good passer right now. Receivers want to go to teams that are going to feature them/throw a lot of balls their way. We are still a run first team whose quarterback is still working to improve everything about his throwing.

Also, if you do change your signon, avoid names like: mockingbirdkillerdeadsalesman and grapewrath. You'll be right back where you were.

Santonio Holmes, Brian Hartline, Brian Robiskie, and Michael Jenkins are still collecting checks in the league. Even if you don't include Ginn and Posey.  I'd say Tressel had a pretty good haul of receivers for a running school.

RE: Timmons....

Timmons scheduled his final official visit to Florida. He's been to Columbus several times, but never took an official.

The premise would be that we could have offered him at any point, we've been in on him for a long time. Some are surmising that this means we are going to miss out on some of the WR targets that we've heard about in the last week or 2.

Logically, that would seem to be the case. I don't watch recruiting that closely but it seems something like this happens every year and this is a standard approach.

Wondering now how/if Corey Smith committing effects the decision.

UK is NOT a powerhouse program. UK typically competes with Indiana and MAC programs for recruits NOT Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, and Michigan. It looks like Urban has become desperate to land a receiver.
