'14 OL...

Few questions:

1 - Which position does Marcelys Jones play...OG or OT...I've even seen some saying DL ?

2 - For whatever reason...out of state OL recruiting has been a bit difficult with many whiffs.  Oconnor & Gardner are the only two in last 2 classes  Is it a fault to recruit OOS while 4* caliber recruits such as Kyle Trout and Nick Richardson are being heavily recruited by Mich St, Illinois, etc ?  This does get a bit dicey.  I'm all for recruiting the best players regardless of location but there is the risk of losing out on the OOS recruit and in the mean time the Ohio recruit commits elsewhere.  Perhaps Urban feels he could flip Trout or Richardson ?

I'm sure tOSU is well aware of the status of Trout and Richardson vis a vis them and other schools. Evan Lisle didn't get offered by the Buckeyes before quite a few quality schools, but was reasonably patient and committed immediately. If Coach Warriner wants Trout and Richardson, I'm sure they will know by April-May. If you see an Ohio OL commit to MSU in May, it's b/c they know a tOSU offer isn't coming.

There's a certain kind of reassuring white rock....and some people do well with that.....

Re: '14 OL...

I want trout in this class, and we need 2 OT in addition to marcelys jones, who will likely play OG in college. Im sure Trout will get his offer by the summer during an OSU camp. If he wants to be a Buckeye, he will be one.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

Re: '14 OL...

Agree with Trout becoming a Buckeye and has the height (6-6) which Urban prefers at OT.  I'm not as concerned in not getting elite lever OL.  OL is a difficult position for recruits to adjust to and develop.  IMO it's more significant to have an OL coach such as Warriner who's one of the best in teaching and developing OL recruits than recruiting rankings...

BTW...at TOS Trout is #12 OL nationally and Richardson is #19.  Other OT rankings which OSU is recruiting:

Damian Prince #2
KC McDermott #3
Orlando Brown #26
Denzel Ward #41 although appears headed to scUM

scUM is recruiting Prince & McDermott as well and they seem to get any OL they want...

At some point, UM's depth chart is going to catch up with their OL recruiting. They have taken 11 (?) studs in the last 2 years. They may have a tougher sell next year.

Re: '14 OL...

Your OL coach, while him being a very good OL coach, from what I have heard and seen (his results at other places of him) is that he is an average recruiter at best. The thing you guys got going for your program is that your program has one of the top 2 recruiter in the US, and his name is URBAN!

Re: '14 OL...

I hope Michigan takes another 6 OL next year.  The problem with OL is if they don't pan out where do you put them...other positions can move to special teams.

I think the number of OL we recruit depends on how we finish this recruiting class. If we can snag another OL and starting off strong in 2014 would make the staff happy/confident for sure.

With Chase Farris moving to the OL and the coaches lauding the abilities of Decker OSU will be just fine at OL.

If I were Michigan I would worry about skill position players.

BTW a stud DL will trump any OL.

What are our chances with Jamarco Jones out of Illinois? Are there any other big time, out of state OL that we are in on?

You're right...the past two classes, they could sell the possibility of early playing time since there was no depth on the offensive line - thanks Rich. They're taking so many offensive linemen because offensive line was so poorly recruited before - even next season, there may still be walkons in the two deep.
