Re: Tommy Sanders

SC has had 1 first round DL or LB drafted under SS, one less than Illinois during that time frame.  AM had the 56th ranked d, a couple of spots behind Ole Miss.  I think both d's do have some great individual talent but lack the complete packages to be considered one of the elite SEC d's.

South Carolina was a top 4 defense in the country last year in total yards and points per game behind Bama, LSU and Georgia, and they are right there this year in every category as well in the top ten, and they play in the SEC and have Clemson on their schedule every year.
TAMU's defense is fast, real fast.  Everyone concentrated on Manziel in that Bama upset, TAMU's speed on defense gave Bama forced and forced a few turnovers as well.
There's a reason both South Carolina and TAMU are ranked in the top 10 and will open in the pre season top 10 next year, they are well rounded teams with speed on both sides of the ball.

SEC elite defenses like South Carolina and TAMU want him now, and Auburn is putting on a full court press.
If there is more attrition or transfers, and we can fit Sanders in and he enrolls in January and is here for spring ball, go for it.

Ohio State might be adding JUCO LB Tommy Sanders. He wants in, but things aren't done yet. Might take 24-48 hours, but he could be IN

South Carolina and TAMU is not what I would consider SEC elite defenses. They're no better than, and probably a tier below in most cases, than Penn St, scUM, Wisconsin, Mich St, and us. The B1G just doesn't look or sound as sexy as "SEC". Hell, the B1G has 9 teams rated ahead of TAMU in total defense.
What do you think about the Ohio State hire?

Re: Tommy Sanders

I checked South Carolinas first round DL & LB picks over the last 6 years (didn't go back any further), and found.....none. And while your facts about their defense the last couple of years are a little off, they have had a nice defense, so I will concede that to you, even though they're not noted as being an elite defense.

"TAMU's defense" and "elite" do not belong in the same paragraph, nevermind the same sentence. There's just nothing at all special about them.

My point, the SEC is not the end all/be all when it comes to college football, even though we can all agree that they are the best conference right now. A middle of the road SEC defense (TAMU) is no more impressive than a middle of the road B1G defense. The B1G has several more impressive defenses than TAMU.

Like I said in another post, I genuinely enjoy and appreciate your posts, but the SEC slobberfest has finally gotten the best of me, I suppose noidea

edit: And, btw, your original point about T. Sanders is not lost on me. He's a great athlete that would be a nice pick up for us.

Melvin Ingram is the only one I know of to be a first rounder for SS.

Don't think they take 3 LB's
Johnson and/or Mitchell must be in doubt.

South Carolina is a pretty darn good defense.. certain better than Penn State & scUM... there are zero Clowneys on those teams.

You say that like a ton of teams in the sec Jadeveon Clowney "types" on them. That dude is a beast, I think he is in his own category this year. No one compares to him this year.

Or, it could mean that a scholarship thought to be going to another position (say to Bell or Quick) can be used at LB.

I say they take all three.  WHY NOT!

It is hard to tell where Mitchell ends up he is a 6'4 beast with SPEED and can line up in multiple positions.  MLB, OLB, DE, hard to tell.

Never argue with an idiot, people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I'd imagine that if the Bucks get Mitchell, he's playing at MLB. They've got a stack of candidates at DE, and ditto at OLB. If that defense has a glaring question mark anywhere right now, it's at MLB.

Fail. We took 5 LBs last year and will take 3 LBs in booker, mcmillan, and garrett in 2014. With limited schollues out there, no way do we take 5 more LBs in 2013. You cant field a defense with 11 LBs LOL!!

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan
