We don't have to be an imitation of Florida, we can be what works given our talent. Florida does provide a nice framework though. Meyer's offense has always needed a power running threat to be effective. Any belief that Meyer's offense is finesse-based instead of power-based is flat wrong. a myth. At Florida...that power threat was the QB (Tebow). When UF struggled offensively, that started because the team didn't have that power threat (after Tebow) and the only RBs that emerged were Rainey and Demps. At Ohio State this year, the power was Hyde for the most part with a little Miller in there (they ran plenty of designed power runs for Miller). And will be some combo of Hyde/Dunn/Smith going forward. Basically, making the defense respect and defend the between-the-tackles run sets up all the misdirection, disguised and playaction plays that lead to the longer, scoring plays. You need the inside running game, a QB running threat and speed on the edge for Meyer's offense to be at full effectiveness. Meyer's offense had maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the necessary ingredients this year. Hence the offensive playmakers being recruited this year being more speed/edge guys (Jacobs, Marshall, Elliott...to go with Quick, Gibson, Elder, Timmons etc that are still being recruited). OSU has its power/inside guys already.

Playmakers: TB E. Elliot, D. Wilson(current Oregon commit, but if Kelly leaves?) ATH J. Marshall, D. Jacobs, C. Elder?, R. Timmons? WR S. Gibson, J. Quick?, ....
Get 5 of those = Oregon Offense potential

RE: Meyer already landed his P. Harvin. His name is Jalin Marsha
People are so obtuse when they say, "only Percy Harvin is Percy Harvin." -well duh Anyway, well said narfa. They completely miss the point. OSU needs OL at this point. We have more than enough skill in this class with Marshall, Elliot, and Jacobs. narfa wrote: When people say that Jalin Marshall is Meyer's Ohio State version of Percy Harvin, they don't mean that Marshall is Harvin. What they mean is that Marshall fits the role of the playmaker hybrid flex position that Harvin popularized.
For some reason this always flies over people's heads and this turns into a pissing contest, which completely misses the point.

So is Jalin Marshall, but more importantly, who is going to block in 2014 when most of our OL is gone? Will it matter that Quick is starting, if the QB has no time to throw to him? ScarletnGrayBuck wrote: James Quick is an immediate starter. Nuff said.

ScarletnGrayBuck wrote: James Quick is an immediate starter. Nuff said. Boren, Decker, Dodson, O'Conner I think are guaranteed starters in 2014 with Farris and Gardner competing for the other guard spot. Considering what the coaching staff has done with the OL in one year I think the starting group will be very solid. We do need to continue to build depth but I don't think the situation will be dire, I have read some very good things about the younger guys we have.

Re: Meyer already landed his P. Harvin. His name is Jalin
Marshall probably wont start next year.
Brown and Smith got two spots locked up , and he will have to beat out guys like Thomas and Spencer for that 3rd spot
With that said, he will play alot , and I expect him to make some plays

I think marshall can start next year, but he will have a hybrid position like a percy harvin. Lets hope he turns out to be better than ted ginn as well.
2014 recruiting wish list 1. Kyle Allen 2. Jamarco Jones 3. Raekwon McMillan

I think Philly Brown, Devin Smith, and Michael Thomas all have an excellent chance to start next year. Evan Spencer is another one who knows the system and has talent. Quick and Marshall are great athletes who I really want to see in Buckeye uniforms, but don't immediately pencil them in as starters. Let them prove themselves.

Thenationalchampions wrote: After comparing Marshall's highlight vids to James Quick, Marshall has a much higher ceiling imo. He's more elusive, and he's more physical. The only unknown is whether he can be consistent enough at a new position, whereas Quick plays WR, -but I have a feeling Marshall is that rare type that will make it a smooth transition.
If we get Quick, great, but I think it's much more important that we get an OL, a S, and another LB (or two.)
I think we are set at skill guys on the offensive side. I'm still excited to see what Warren Ball can do -i think he has the highest ceiling at RB. I'd toy w/the idea of making Elliot a WR -he looks like another who could change positions. I totally agree on this one...I see Ball and Dunn taking care of the RB spot for the next few years( after Smith leaves) and we'll get a 5* stud recruit somewhere in that time frame. This off season will be interesting to see how everyone progresses.
