Scholarships for 2013

Does anyone know how many scholarships Coach Meyer has left to offer for 2013? And what players they may target for those remaining slots?

Re: Scholarships for 2013

5 or 6 more.

The main targets right now for those slots are

Trey Johnson
Mike Mitchell
Shelton Gibson
James Quick
Vonn Bell
Chris Worley

After that, there are plenty of plan b guys like
Ryan Timmons
Corn Elder
Kenny Lacy
Tony Stevens
Skai Moore
and a few other guys.

Re: Scholarships for 2013

There is no proof whatsoever of "5-6 more". OSU has 20 to give with 19 committed. So one definitely and then it becomes a process of attrition to get to a final number.

The other thing that no one seems to be posting about is that there are only 14 Seniors next season. If we load up this year, how much attrition can possibly happen to give us well past 14 scholarships for 2014?

There are not alot of seniors next year (well Roby will in effect be one, if he comes back for another year), but we also have more than a handful of frosh / sophs trying to return to 100% from a variety of injuries / surgeries (mostly knee and shoulder, I believe).

Hall will be a redshirt Sr. next season, so add him to the count. If Roby doesn't leave this season, my bet is he will the following year. Could be a log jam at RB,TE, DE, and LB next season. I look for at least one from each group to transfer. Bet we end up with 18 to 20 scholarships. Next seasons playing time will weigh heavy on who stays, and who goes.

Naw you're right we clearly are targeting so many players to fill one more spot. Were you one of the people arguing we wouldn't have more than 17?

Re: Scholarships for 2013

Seriously though. Attrition happens, has been happening and will continue to happen. You can count on it. If the right players want to commit we will go to 24 or 25, I guarantee it. Of course if we bust out on a lot of our targets we will probably save the scholarships for the year after.

2014 should be a smaller class 15-20 depending on who leaves early, grades, injuries, inevitable trouble with the law, ect. But it will be full of talent. Maybe not USC this year, but close.

2015 will be another full class of 25 because we get those 3 scholarships back.

At the new OSU, if you aren't getting it done on the field talent-wise or effort wise, you are best served looking at other schools.

BuckeyeNation (on ESPN.com) has us with 5-6 left before Conley committed.  So, three more?

We have 1 scholarship open WITHOUT any attrition.

Players transferring or going to the draft open up additional scholarships.

Yes i think we have room for only 3 more at this point with hankins ging pro and hall coming back. If we include mitchell and bell that only leves 1 more spot for quick or gibson.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

Ignore

Re: Scholarships for 2013

Sure there is always attrition. But to state definitively that we have room for 5-6 more is misleading. Let's see who the 4-5 guys are that leave in the next few months.

I would guess 3 more to go with one open scholarship, Hankins going pro and one from someone leaving for more playing time. If there is further attrition, bank them for next year so we can have a 20+ class based on all the high level talent we appear to be in on.

14 is nothing to be alarmed at.  Add Roby and Shazier leaving early and you are at 16, add a career ending injury and you are at 17, then you can count on 2 more kids transferring out for PT plus one of this years recruits not making it to campus and there you go 20.  None of these numbers would be anything out of the ordinary and would be business as usual to get to 20.

That is a ton of scholarships for a recruiter like UM to build a class with.

I wonder if we don't go with two LBs and a WR--- could be Conley means we are done at DB.

I would agree and it seems like all the "experts" who were saying Worley had a committable offer may not have known what they were talking about.  He clearly looks like a plan B type.

Re: Scholarships for 2013

I would bet anything there will be more than 3 more players in this class.

24-25 is the number, could be 23 if we bust out on a lot of guys. I think we take at least Johnson, Worley, Mitchell, and 1-2 more receivers, probably 2. Hankins is gone and there will be 4-6 players to depart before August as there always is.

What? Its my opinion, you don't have to share it. Sorry JT is not here anymore, we're not going to keep the Evan Blankenship types around 5 years anymore. Agree or disagree with getting rid of non contributes, its how you win in today's age and the handful of people with no futures on the team are going to be on transfer watch.
