Luke Morgan walking on at QB
Not seen this reported here but Luke Morgan of Lebanon committed to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on. Always good to see. Threw for 2245 and 28 touchdowns and rushed for 832 yards and 11 touchdowns this year.

Re: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
I'm sure he will do a nice job on the scout team. Good to have kids like that who know they will never play in a game, but want to be part of a TEAM.

RE: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
Have to be a good prospect to be given that opportunity, a pro-style qb is a nice change-up, though i like the dual threat buckeyes.

Who KNOW they will never play in a game? I doubt that any of them know that. They know the chances are small, sure, but most every year, at least in the Tressel era, we had at least one or two walk-ons or former walk-ons who saw PT, didn't we? I've known a couple walk-ons at D1 programs, and both of them sincerely believed that they could work themselves into a schollie and PT. I doubt that many kids would go through all that effort without having at least some level of hope of seeing the field. Anyway, best of luck, Luke, thanks for choosing to be a Buckeye, and may your dreams come true.

Welcome aboard Luke. Nate Ebner was a walk-on and now he is with the Patriots.

Re: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
I have seen him play before, against Centerville this past season. Big kid-6'3-6'4 and solid, throws a very nice ball. He is definitely worth a shot as a walk-on, I figured he might get a lot of MAC attention.

Your right about selected walkon's getting playing time, but name the last walk on QB to have played? Hey, take your negative attitude to your home forum, huh? No tolerance for trolls bashing future Buckeyes here.

Re: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
As a Lebanon alum and friend of Luke's father, Doug, I am thrilled to see this.
He's good kid, great competitor, and has some skills. Good fit for the program.
I know I haven't seen it all, but I think I've seen enough.

Re: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
Always nice to get preferred walkons with MAC offers. Thats 3 now in like a week.
Think about it this way, we are getting walkons with scholarship offers comparable to most of the kids PSU is landing.

Bell played college football for the University of Florida, and thereafter, he played professionally for four NFL teams, one WLAF team and four CFL teams. He is the current head coach of the Jacksonville Dolphins college football team that represents Jacksonville University located in Jacksonville, Florida. Samuel Jacob "Sam" Bradford (born November 8, 1987) is an American football quarterback for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, after playing college football for the University of Oklahoma. In 2008, as a redshirt sophomore, Bradford became the second sophomore to win a Heisman Trophy. He also holds the NCAA record for most touchdown passes by a freshman quarterback, with 36. In his first season in the NFL, Bradford set the record for most completions by a rookie in NFL history, which helped earn him the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Colton "Colt" James Brennan (born August 16, 1983) is an American professional football quarterback, last with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, and was released two years later. He played college football at Hawaii. He holds the NCAA Division I (NCAA) record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 58. He holds several other NCAA Division I FBS records. Jonathan Smith, now Boise State Quarterbacks Coach, was Four Year Starter at Quarterback for Oregon State (1998-2001). MVP of 2002 Fiesta Bowl, leading Oregon State to 41-9 win over Notre Dame.
All of the above guys started out as walk-ons. They, along with dozens of other guys who never reached the level of these guys, but who at least saw PT, and in many cases started in D1 football, demonstrate that for a walk-on to see playing time at QB, while perhaps a rare feat, is by no means a mere pipe dream.

Re: Luke Morgan walking on at QB
I don't know about Bell and Smith, but Brennan wasn't a real walk on. He was a 4* prospect in a special circumstance. Bradford didn't walk on at all? He was the #17 QB 4* and got an offer to OU. drnlaw wrote:

You're right about McCoy; I had misread an article on him. Yes and no re: Brennan. Brennan started his college career as a walk-on at Colorado. He also walked-on at Hawaii, but yes, under "special circumstances." But his career at CU, where he no doubt would have stayed and gone on to start but for his little problem, started as a walk-on. So call it two-and-a-half instead of four, but the point remains, it is not unheard of for a walk-on QB to make the grade, and there is no reason to think that any of these guys, including Morgan, do not sincerely believe that they have a shot at seeing the field.
