Jimmy Byrne to ND

Rivals is saying that Byrne will be commiting to ND soon, but the word is his school may have slipped up and announced it.  Doesn't surprise me, but it does suck to lose him if true.  There are several other top OL that OSU is going after.  Not a huge loss.

Congrats to ND if true.  Was just looking at Rivals 250 for 2013 and it looks like OSU, ND and UM have done a nice job with talent.

Re: Jimmy Byrne to ND

It is a big lost.  Next year we will need to sign 4-5 quality o-linemen.  Anytime a big in-state propsect decides not to take the OSU offer it is a big loss.  It is always harder to get top out-of-state recruits to sign with your program.  I guess we are planning to take one top in state o-lineman and 3-4 out of state o-linemen for next year.

Sure, UFM thinks it's a big 'lost'.

We need to fix the problem with OL recruiting, wiffed on too many in the 2013 class too. Can't continue at this rate for long.

Re: Jimmy Byrne to ND

What about 2012.  We whiffed with two 247 consensus top 20 tackles, a consensus #12 guard and a Boren.  If we can whiff in 2014 like 2012 I'll be happy.  2013 is a mild down but we got a Blue chip tackle, a lower ranked guard who after performing in front of Meyer was offered 8 months before NSD and have a good shot at a blue chip guard and Billy Price can play guard and would have been a top 10-20 national guard if he wasn't also a DT.  Don't worry about the OL.  We had the worst OL coach in the Milky Way Galaxy for 10 years and now we don't.

Great athlete and woulda been a great get, but for me it's not a loss because I never had him going to C-Bus in the first place.

Irish kid at a premier Catholic HS program likely grew up watching ND every Saturday with his old man.

No doubt. But, living in ground-zero of ND's biggest following for the past 18 (almost 19) years (Chicago), I can honestly say that these people are about as obsessed with tradition as Cubs fans are... although they have only been waiting 24 years for a championship... not 104 and counting like the idiots on the North Side.

Not a big surprise with the success ND is having plus the fact of a good catholic boy going there is no surprise.  If the Notre Shame success continues we can look for many recruiting battles in the futrue.
