Re: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
+1. Pitt did not beat out OSU. It was pretty clear to most that Johnson was a longshot for OSU b/c he wanted to be close to home. Some people stay close to home because they can't afford room and board. Some guys stay close to home even with a full scholarship on the table and a chance to get away and grow as an individual. I don't get it, but to each his own.

He must not be a real football fan. I would have at least waited to come to the game this weekend, then picked his beloved second-tier program.

Good luck to the guy. He committed to his hometown team to stay close to his family and friends.....he didn't bad mouth the Bucks. I wish him the best.

Good luck to the kid. He's not the loser. The loser is the guy who wants to sit behind his keyboard and bash him and Pitt for the kid not picking OSU.

QCBUCK--I'm with you on that. The guy has a right to make a choice as to where he wants to go. No Dis to OSU, he just wants to play at Pitt. Hope he has a good time playing ball there. Let'd go find some talent that wants to play at OSU.

Re: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
Stop ripping the kid. He wants to stay close to his family and his hometown. With Johnson gone, does the staff offer Meadows or Peterson? Or is Dawson it?
Go Bucks! And so forth...

Re: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
Perhaps it isn't tOSU but that is a school full of tradition and hardly lacking in big names over the years... Pop Warner coached there. If we Buckeyes can pull the tradition card like we do, so can the Panthers. That 'small pond' that produced Tony Dorsett, Mike 'Da Coach' Ditka and Dan Marino (two of those three I grew up watching on Sundays) also includes numerous current NFLers like Darelle Revis, LeSean McCoy, Larry Fitzgerald and Jabaal Sheard (I'm a Browns fan, and that guy is a stud)...no to mention they almost upset the currently #1 ranked team in the nation a few weeks ago. Good for him. theFootballBeast wrote: kid wants to be a big fish in a little pond and be on a team with 5,000 fans watching him for home games and struggle to make 2nd tier bowl games every year.
Oh well. We'll just need 2 stud OTs for the 2014 class. I think Urban can get it done.

Wish him well and move on. Osu will thrive and survive without Mr Johnson.

RE: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
Pitt fan here. Have to say that this is one of the most classy and respectful response threads I have ever seen. Normally we deal with PSU threads about guys we get and they're beyond idiotic - staff cooled on him, academic issues, personal issues, you name it. Every excuse in the book.
Just because I can't help myself: while obviously are results on the field have been disappointing, I think anyone who looks at Pitt objectively can see it as a sleeping giant. Lots of notable NFL alumni both current and historic, fertile recruiting ground, shared facilities with an A-list NFL franchise, and a surprisingly rich tradition going back to Pop Warner. Of course while I don't think we could ever recruit with OSU on the basis of game day atmosphere or on the basis of recent success, I personally don't agree with a few of your posters who label Pitt a second-tier destination. This is doubly true for local kids; anyone who knows someone from Pittsburgh knows they are a loyal bunch and have a downright irrational love for their city.
However it's your board and not mine, so my opinion doesn't carry too much weight!
The proportion of West Virginia's adult population with a bachelor's degree is the lowest in the U.S. at 17.3%.

Class act, and as a Browns fan, I thank your school for Jabaal Sheard. CMUandPitt wrote: Pitt fan here. Re: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
This young man always seemed to be thinking of home and his friends during his recruiting. He choose to stay close to home. I think he gave Ohio State a chance, but as good as the staff tied to get him to Columbus he always seemed to be thinking more about Pitt.
Good luck to Dorian. He never said a bad thing about OSU. Visited us several times. Even brought his mom one time. He just wanted to stay closer to home and be around his friends. I can't blame a kid for that.

RE: Dorian Johnson has committed to Pitt
You can argue all you want about what team he might fit in best with but I never fault a kid that wants to stay in his hometown or state. Maybe some of you have such a miserable time in your own hometown that you feel everyone must feel the same. No, some have built strong relationships that they would like to hold on to.

Urban gets out recruited again by another marginal oos program. Hopefully smith is printing out the termination papers. We need a coach that can close on oos recruits.
