another miss: Monheim leading tackler in B10

and he is just a freshman and he wanted to be
a buckeye, but Fickell and Vrabel picked some kid from
lancaster over him at camp ...

I said they should have taken both ... would have
really helped in the middle this year and going forward ...

And for all we know, Luke Roberts is the leading tackler on a bad Illinois team.

Maybe Borland is sitting behind Sabino, had they both chosen Wisconsin.

Who knows.

John Kerr:

At Indiana: Led Indiana in tackles with 114 (75 solos, 39 assists) … was the leading freshman tackler in the Big Ten … was the only freshman at IU to start all 12 games … led the Hoosiers in tackles four times, including a 10-stop performance against Ohio State in Bloomington … had five games with 10 or more tackles, including career highs of 13 against Wisconsin and Penn State.

Re: another miss:

Somebody seems to like to pick at his own fan base.

John Kerr is a great example.
Best on an average (in IU's case a rare and great season) does not make anyone the next Animal, Kat, or Hawk.

Yeah im so glad we didnt get Perkins, Marcus, Perry, etc

That kid got abused by miller so many times. He will struggle against any top flight athletes.

Happy to see Monheim having a good year.  But you are bound to have good tackle stats when teams run on you 45 times per game.

Monheim got juked by Braxton like nobodies business. Someone has to make tackles/clean up the mess on Illinois' defense. The OP does realize that EVERY team has to have a leading tackler, even the awful ones.............

There's a certain kind of reassuring white rock....and some people do well with that.....

When your offense sucks and spends the afternoon going 3 and out, that leaves for a whole lot of opportunities for your defense to get big numbers.

Mason is from my neck of the woods, watched him play many times.. Great kid, extremely hard worker, tough.. Not a knock on the kid at all, but we can do better at LB. Happy to see him doing well at Illinois though!!

Re: another miss: Monheim leading tackler in B10

Means nothing. The guy could make 200 tackles and it wouldn't make him an AA.

Reminds me of the people who are so impatient they would've rather had (insert random average college QB) instead of Smith/Pryor/Miller because at the time they were ok passers and the aforementioned trio struggled.

OSU and other top programs recruit players based off potential and whether they are able to coach them up. There is no point in recruiting players who may contribute right away because they are polished, but will be passed up in thenext year on the depth chart by someone who is more gifted and can give them a chance against elite teams.

Can't get them all and can't take them all.

Does the chance of St Ignatious being a better football team than Illinois right now factor into this equation at all?

I think OSU will be fine lol. Anyways, Braxton will make 99% of LBs look stupid when in space. That is something I don't put a lot of stock into IRT to Mason being juked out of his pants against Braxton. Even the elite LBs would/will have problems against him.

Regardless our linebackers are bad, sabino was a huge miss, shazier has been so so, a converted fullback is our best linebacker. We could use all the help we can get.

Re: another miss: Monheim leading tackler in B10

Monheim is a hard worker but undersized and a little slow.  The OP apparently hasn't watched him play this year.  He, understandably, gets pushed around a lot and many of his tackles are well downfield.

And, as has been pointed out, playing on a horrible team he gets lots of opportunities to make tackles.  His tackle number is really a meaningless stat.

Re: another miss: Monheim leading tackler in B10

Monheim is a good player, but just because he is leading the Big Ten in tackles does not make him the best linebacker in the Big Ten. I am sure the style of defense they run and the talent and skills of his fellow teammates will factor into total tackles. Good player, not another miss!
