Re: Tracy Sprinkle is a 3star

Meyer has recruited so well at the DL position that he could offer a 1* and I'd be confident someone did their homework.
"Meyer is not a 'guy in a wizard hat selling snake oil', nor is he the only coach in America that recruits down to the wire - he is just the best at it."

Re: Tracy Sprinkle is a 3star

Watched the highlight reel.  The dude has size, a high motor, and when he hits people, they go down hard.  Actually, even when he gets close to the victim, they have no chance of escape.  When considering his young age, his ceiling has to be higher than similar kids in the same recruiting class, because he will continue to rapidly grow and mature, in the next year even.  Also, the competition he is playing against appears to be pretty formidable.   Up until now, I never paid much attention to Sprinkle, but after watching the highlights, I am now a fan.

Re: Tracy Sprinkle is a 3star

Sprinkle needs much better leverage to compete at the next level, but he does have good size, strength, and explosiveness for such a young guy.  Let him work on technique and gaining weight/strength for a year or 2, and we can see him develop into quite a fine DT in a couple of years.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

from Theozone:

Sprinkle's season is over. He finished the year with 103 tackles, 19 sacks (which led the state, per the Elyria Chronicle Telegram) and 30 tackles for loss. Sprinkle was named the Ohio Division-I Defensive Player of the Year

not sure why he is only the #48 ranked DE in the country putting up those kind of numbers in DI and being DPOY.  Also not sure why he is ranked as a DE, when he will clearly play DT in college. noidea

Couple of points
1-Your post illustrates why it is stupid to flip out if kid is ranked the #48 DE in the country vs. the #27 DE in the country. The only peiople who truly think that means a damn thing are the star hander-outers at scout and ESPN who have a financial interest in stirring the pot. The coaches look at the kid on film and in person and decide if he is worth the offer-rankings don't mean a damn thing.

2-Theortetically, Sprinkle's ranking MIGHT be justified. Let's look at the top 12 states for recruiting-as a guess-California,Texas,Georgia,Florida,Ohio,Pennsy lvania,Alabama,Viriginia,North Carolina,South Carolina,Louisiana, and Arizona. Is it possible there are 4 DEs in each of those states-and 3 in Ohio-who have comparable stats/pass the on-field look test better-yes, theoretically it is quite possible, not to mention all the DEs in the states not listed above. Bottom line-it is about recruiting potential, not HS stats.

There's a certain kind of reassuring white rock....and some people do well with that.....

Re: Tracy Sprinkle is a 3star

Tracy Sprinkle has the frame and talent to be a very good player. At his age you are just starting to mature into his size. With the faciliites and training staff he will have to improve this kids could be the steal of this Class. Watch his tape and see raw skills but talent. He plays the whole game with a high energy level for such a big kid. Good motor.

Some kids just don't get the same PR. Tracy is one of those hidden talents! Just not to the OSU staff. Big upside!
