Signing Link - Some interesting numbers per ESPN

http://insider.espn.go.com/col...g/classrankings

Link above from ESPN

Take a look at the numbers per school.

Florida - 28
Ole Miss - 28
LSU - 27
Texas A&M - 34
Georgia - 32
Michigan - 27

Top Ten Classes w/ 25 or more commits.

1. All but one are SEC Schools
2. How can Texas A&M have 34 and Georgia have 32 ?
3. Ohio State jumped Bama - no doubt because of Bell
4. Florida #1 w/ 28

Any comments on why the high numbers from at least A&M and Georgia and to a lesser extent Florida ?

This has been discussed at length on the recruiting board, but UGA and A&M are legit. The numbers work out. There are a lot of reasons why but the numbers all work.

Re: Signing Link - Some interesting numbers per ESPN

I posted this about a month ago on the recruiting forum with respect to A&M's class.  The data is a tad outdated but still works...

So, A&M currently has 35 commits. 9 are early enrollees which will count towards the 2012 class which itself only had 19 signees and 1 didn't get in so they actually got 18. Take away Thomas Johnson who went crazy mid-season and left the team (could return later but I believe his schollie spot is free for now) and that takes the 2012 numbers down to 17 + 9 (from '13) = 26 for 2012. That brings their 2013 class size to 26 and a few of those wont qualify. So at least two kids from the '13 class wont qualify which would bring their total two year take at 50 ships. From what I understand, Sumlin is expecting upwards of 5 kids in this class to not qualify.

So in the end, the numbers add up making everything they are doing perfectly legit. It's frowned upon in some corners, including the Big XII and Big Ten, but it is well within the rules. What will be interesting to see is the effect it has on their 2014 class. They currently have 6 commits in that class (which is tied with Texas for second most behind Florida State's 7) and they have 41 offers out which is among the most though well short of the 86 offers Urban has made for '14.

coopercougar, I have a question for you about recruiting. You look at all the classes at other schools and they have kids from around their state or around the country. You look at Texas's class and they only come from Texas. Do you think that hurts Texas and Mack Brown. I know you have a lot of good players in Texas, but they are not all top 5 or 10 at their position. Would not Texas help themselves by going out of state for some players? i appreciate your answer to this question. You are honest with your statements and that is refreshing.

UGA started last season with only 67 on scholarship.  A lot of their signees are already in class.  They will still be under 85, probably well under.

We've played for two national titles under Mack.  In 2005, 20 of our 22 starters and 75 of the 81 players we had on scholarship were from Texas.  In 2009, 21 of our 22 starters and 77 of our 82 scholarship players were from Texas.  If anything, we waste too much time (the little we spend) out of state recruiting when history has proven we are more than capable of winning it all with talent almost entirely from our own state.

I see that 4 of your signees are JC, so they could enroll early and count towards last years class. In theory. That would get you down to 27.

woody IF all 32 kids got in school uga would have 81 recruited players on scholarship.

we hoped to sign 36 this year to get to 85 but missed on several the last week.

one kid we signed--devondre seymour will almost surely have to go to a prep school. we were planning on not signing him and just placing him at a prep but i guess because his pop was a former dawg player--richard seymour who played in the nfl a long time and may still be--i guess we decided to let him have his big day.

Better alert the NCAA about this. I don't think they know about all the cheating going on by these SEC schools. These numbers aren't widely available, so the NCAA relies on "friendlies" like you folks to keep them informed.

Man oh man when they see you fellas blow this lid of this scam it is gonna make some headlines, boy! Good work here, Mike Hammer!

Georgia doesn't oversign.  They were well under.  Some of their guys will sign as early enrollees but they have the space.

Take a chill pill dude, I wasn't suggesting SEC schools were doing anything wrong, it was a noticable trend from the top 10 schools.

NEWS FLASH - Maybe in SEC land message boards are used to just trash other schools / fans with 100 threads on the same topic. I tend to enjoy a discussion, even on so called "OLD" topics when new twists emerge.

Today is signing day, a lot of stuff went down - would be nice to know why from another fan's perspective, maybe even a fan from another board might want to post a take w/out getting ball batted.

There is time for trash talking, but it's nice to know what you are talking about before you toss stones.

Thanks, that is helpful - I appreciate the insight.

Some folks around here I swear just post to see their post count go up.

It's nice to get the total picture.

rj we had 13 early enrollees.

the way we stand right now looking at our roster and the seniors for next year and 3 guys we expect to lose it appears RIGHT NOW we will be able to sign 19 or 20 next year.

Joshua Dobbs is a good one and could kill in Butch's offense.
