Random Greg Bellisari anecdote - my mom hurt her foot recently and he ended up being her doctor. It's always nice when guys follow through and go back to school.

In 2013 are Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, Rod Smith, Bri'onte Dunn, Philly Brown, etc... all going to be benched for true Freshmen?

I would venture to say you would be wrong. This is the best OSU class since 96 IMO, and if you remember that team...freshman did play major roles. Katzenmoyer, Boston, Wiley etc didn't just get reps in scrub time.

Re: Marshall/Elliott/Wilson

Alabama has been able to get away with it at Tailback as Ingram started and Richardson played as backup, then Richardson started and Lacey played as backup, and then Lacey started and Yelton played as backup.

2013 could be interesting with Yelton, Henry, etc...

If all of these freshman are benchwarmers, Meyer will lose credibililty for the future and I don't think he will risk that.  Alabama is the bench mark and they play many young guys over expereinced players.

These players will not just be waiting their turn.

don't forget Warren Ball.  He came in at 215 and needed a lot of work in the upper body.  He could easly be 225-230 this yr with speed.  Urban said he was impressed with him last yr.  So where do you play all thess all-stars, 6 outstanding RBs??  Hope they have patience and will wait their turn.  Also, Elliot was/is concerned about Wilson so will he go with Missouri, a team that is bottom tier in the SEC?  If he thinks hes NFL caliber his choice has to be OSU.

Saw posted where Marshalls speed is 4.7?  Can that be true??  Mitchell, a LBer is posted at 4.4.  Urban believes in speed and that is what he is recruiting with big DLmen.  The recruiting is great.

The only freshman I can see who will make an imediate impact is Mitchell, even that is questionable, but he stands the best chance in my opinion.

Marshall runs more like Miller than anyone else tbh.. and they have similar speed

Absolutely. I have seen both live and while neither are as fast as Ginn Jr. or some other pure speedster, they are elite playmakers in that they have ridiculous moves and great burst. Miller has broken off many big plays without having that coveted and overrated "elite" speed.

I think Elliott has a bright future at OSU if he still decides to commit, but he wil not see sufficient playing time to warrant burning a RS unless it's at KR/PR, and I don't see why you burn a year for him to do that.

Marshall or Wilson will have an opportunity to get some early playing time as a backup at the slot/hybrid position and possibly at KR. They could both have an impact there, it just depends on how well they adapt to the college game.

I agree with both of you.  The truth lies somewhere in between but we need to factor in another aspect:  I think some programs start to see their recruiting rankings inflate to match their reputation.  I think we were starting to see quite a bit of this with Jim Tressel and Ohio State from 2008-2010.

And so, while we're again seeing a class full of 4-star guys. . .much like we always did under Tressel, we ARE actually getting more talented players.  However, that does NOT mean that they are all good enough to unseat incumbents with 2 or 3 years of college football experience. . . but some will. . .maybe only one. . .but that one will be truly special. And I won't even wager a guess of who.

Whoa there.... who are these guys going to take time away from?  Elliot has a phenomenal future... HOWEVER  he is NOT going to displace Hyde, Smith or Dunn... you remember Dunn right 5* #7 rated running back in the country....

Wilson and Marshall are studs without question... Hall is the #1 hybrid guy right now with a massive lead.  Corey Smith was brought in as a JUCO because he is ready to play NOW. With the elite level of recruiting Meyer is doing you dont go after a Smith because you want him to sit.  You bring him in to START from day 1.

That means that Marshall and Wilson are competing for time against Hall, Brown, Smith(Corey) Devin Smith, Evan Smith and Michael Thomas.  While I can see them seeing the field it is most likely sparingly.  They will almost surely be the #6 or #7 slotted receiver.

Marshall is LEARNING how to play WR... he isnt going to be ready this year and almost 100% is going to redshirt.

Wilson stands a real shot at getting on the field but, IMO the staff probably goes Hall and spells Hall with Brown at Hybrid making Wilson 3rd team... if that combo works, why on earth would you burn a year of eligibility for slop time?

I am Willing to bet none of the three will redshirt and a couple of them will have a major impact, before the season is over.

We have added a lot of elite speed.

I agree with Cinci...the return game has gotten a huge boost.  Everyone of these kids will get a shot. I would not count out Jacobs just because of his star rating. I could see us having the highest kickreturn average in the B10...punt return as well.

Johnny Townsend will start at punter...huge upgrade.

Special teams will be much better.

I agree with Cinci also about more 4-5 WR sets...a lot more.

Imagine this for second...

Braxton
Wilson
Smith
Smith
Brown
Marshall

Good luck B10

You are living in the past. This is not Tressel's HIARCHY of class rank. Wait your turn. If these incoming FROSH are faster and pick of the game plan they will start over older guys. There is a new sheriff in town and he is the URBANATOR!! cool

Personally I have no idea who would get benched. I have been watching sports too long and am not smart enough to make bold predictions. I do think with the talent we have coming in, there will be a freshman playing a major role.

We do have holes from the previous season. We had a fullback play mlb last season. Subpar wide receivers and average safety play. Thin at cb. Not sure why you mentioned running backs.

I don't have to go back as far as 96. Ted Ginn, Maurice Clarett, Beanie Wells, Terrelle Pryor, Braxton Miller all qualify as freshman who played major roles. Its really not all that rare.

Wasnt US All American and 4* recruit Corey Brown described as a playmaker?

What about 5* RB recruit Dunn?

The highest rated guy (Marshall) prolly has the least chance of playing because he is going to a totally different position.   However it is the thinnest spot.

Besides, until any of them prove they can be trusted with the ball and blocking assignments (Smith and Dunn) it doesnt matter.  We had high hopes for both as frosh and .......

We also added James Clark from Florida today who is another speedster. If you haven't seen this guys video then do yourself a favor and check it out. No way in hell there are 29 receivers in the country better than this guy. The play around the 1:20 mark is eerily similar to Ginn against Oklahoma State.

thanks for posting the link. Based on watching Clark's and Taivon Jacobs highlights, it looks like Clark is playing a more robust game against a higher level of competition than Jacobs. I wish Jacobs well at Maryland, I'm glad he is staying in the B1G, but he is a little more raw than Clark. Clark can catch the ball in traffic and runs with authority.

However, New Symrna has a decent QB too.
