Yes! Only military, police, and politicians should have guns - because it's well known that members of these 3 groups are morally superior and more responsible than members who aren't in these groups. bgrupy wrote: ......................God please let there be stricter gun laws.

However, where in his post did you see him state that only military, police, and politicians should have guns? He only stated a wish for "stricter" gun laws. How in the world could anyone NOT be in favor of this, especially knowing there is no way we can identify and isolate all the mentally ill and deranged people in our society?!? Why should ANYONE in the United States be allowed to have an assault rifle, or a magazine that can hold more than 6-10 rounds?!?

Re: Jim Stillwagon pleads not guilty
Why should colonists be allowed to have rifles? People should be allowed to have such weapons because as The People the 2nd Amendment gives people the right to have them in order to defend themselves against a tyrannical government, whether that government is British in the 18th century, or American in the 21st century. As we have seen during the 20th century during Vietnam, during the 21st century during the Iraq War, there are times for mostly peaceful protest against the government. In the future there may come a time for a violent protest against the government. Tragedies like Sandy Hook are a small price to pay to have the ability to avoid much more colossal tragedies like the Holocaust, etc... Guns are not the problem, even assault rifles with 30 magazine clips (of course Adam Lanza used 4 handguns at SHES not an assault rifle), the problem is society in many different ways. Strict gun laws will be a successful as prohibition, which worked so well that it became the only constitutional amendment to be appealed, and the war on drugs, with its most recent strategy U.S. government giving Mexican drug cartels large quantities of the very same guns people want to now ban in the U.S, law abiding citizens will have much tougher times of acquiring guns, while criminals will still find ways to obtain them illegally - probably as they are funneled back into the U.S. from Mexico. cmquest wrote: buckeyemark wrote: Yes! Re: Jim Stillwagon pleads not guilty
This might be the most idiotic thing I've read on the internet all day. Thinking that assault rifles are somehow preventing a 2nd holocaust (which occurred in a right wing country with lax gun laws) is beyond stupid., and the idea that possessing assault rifles could protect us against a tyrannical government in today's day and age is laughable. No, what it really comes down to is people like yourself think guns are cool and make you feel like a badass. You really don't give a damn about children, the constitution, or this country. You just like playing with your toys. buckeyemark wrote: Why should colonists be allowed to have rifles?

Re: Jim Stillwagon pleads not guilty
I was curious as to how many gun laws are on the books. The Brookings Institute put the number of "meaningful" laws at 300 while the NRA goes with the commonly quoted figure of 20,000. Regardless of the number, if authorities would just enforce a few of the laws already on the books, there would be no need to pass more laws that won't be enforced. For example:
FIREARM IN A SCHOOL ZONE: 18 USC § 922(q)(2)(A). Punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment. A. Except as authorized, may not possess or discharge a firearm in a school zone.
VI. KNOWINGLY POSSESS OR MANUFACTURE: 18 USC § 922(k), (o) & (v); 26 USC § 5861. Punishable by up to 5 or 10 years imprisonment, depending upon specific violation. A. Any machine gun, fully automatic firearm or any part designed or intended exclusively for use in such weapon; B. Any firearm silencer, including any device, or part thereof, designed to silence, muffle or diminish the report of a firearm; C. Sawed-off shotgun with a barrel length of less than 18" or overall length less than 26"; D. Sawed-off rifle with a barrel length of less than 16" or overall length less than 26"; E. Destructive device; F. Semi-automatic assault weapon manufactured after October 1, 1993; OR G. Any firearm which lacks a serial number or contains an altered or obliterated serial number.
OK, last word on politics - back to football.

Re: Jim Stillwagon pleads not guilty
I own ZERO guns of any variety. The problem is not guns. The problem is society! The problem is instant gratification. The problem is dysfunctional families. The problem is drug addiction. The problem is no respect for life, law, personal property, authority, etc... The problem is no discipline, responsibility, accountability, etc... Law abiding responsible adults should be able to own any kind of firearm they want. I am all in favor of much stronger gun control for criminal law breaking irresponsible people, and all in favor for tougher punishments for those who break the law using a gun. The Joker in Aurora, CO should get the death penalty as soon as a judge and jury find him guilty. Guns are not toys! They are a valuable tool that requires absolute responsibility in their use, storage, etc... In the video The Story of US General Colin Powell says something to the extent that trained and armed people will always have a chance to avoid being oppressed. Why is it that no one wants to look at U.S. society? Gun violence is a symptom of U.S. society as it exists today, it is not the cause of U.S. society.
