He was out of position in college, he is a good guard and terrible tackle.  He is a mauler at run blacking and complete lioability against edge rushers in the pass game.  He would have domionated at osu at guard.

OSU old coaches like many try to put a size limit on positions in my mind. He was too big to play guard or something.

He was a horrible drunk at Ohio State. Unfortunately, there was no one to push him for playing time.

He wasnt out of position. He was our best left tackle, the most important spot on the offensive line. You're a clown. The Buckeyes were better with him at that spot because no one did it better. Many, many NFL guards were tackles in college who werent good enough to man that position in the NFL. Dan Dierdorf, a hall of fame guard, was a left tackle at Michigan.

At Ohio State, Alex Boone was all Big Ten (first or second team) three times. He wasn't a terrible tackle. But you are a terrible poster.

As are 95% of college kids. I have hung out with him and yes, the dude can pound some brew(drank straight from the pitcher) but he got his act together and will make enough money to support a family for life off of less than a decade of work. So kudos to him, I never saw him get violent when drinking or anything destructive like many that age do. But he was a god awful karaoke singer. Wish him all the success in the world

Yeah, I also had the misforunate to hang out with him in college. He was usually belligerent and there was one outstandingly racist (and hilarious for the wrong reasons) time where he repeatedly called my Hispanic friend a "wop". Considering he got the ever-loving-**** tased out of him, I am going to guess I'm not the only person that thought he was a bad drunk.

*edit* No wait. It wasn't "wop". It was "guinea".

"You talking to my girlfriend? You guinea...pig" while repeatedly poking someone in the chest.

Ahhhh, college.

*double edit* with link

Projected as a mid-round draft pick following his junior season, Boone's stock plummeted. Just months earlier, Amy had received a chilling phone call from then-OSU coach Jim Tressel who told her: "As far as I'm concerned, Alex should never touch another drop of alcohol as long as he lives."

"When he came to me [in 2010] he was fat and out of shape," Bentley said. "He was like 325 pounds with a high level of body fat. There was lots of work to be done."

My main point isn't to rag on the guy for being an alcoholic or anything, it's cool that he cleaned his life up. My point being he was obviously having issues in college, between being a drunk and being out of shape and having zero accountability from the coaching staff, that contribute to the fact he wasn't as good in college as he was in the NFL.

Word. I probably was considered a bad drunk many in college too because I used to .............. Glad to see him turn it around though, or at least avoid the spotlight.

Wow, you are one great debater.  Of course, common wisdom says that he was too tall to play guard and you see how much harbaugh cares about that wisdom.  no matter how many all big ten boone made at osu his weakness was blocking outside pass rushers.  Playing guard he does not have that problem and he can do what he does best and that is drive block the man in front of him into the ground.

I am not a johnny come lately to this discussion this is what I said when he was at osu. Carry on with your intelligent descriptions of the great poster you believe me to be.

95% of college kids are drunks or have a serious drinking problem that interferes with their ability to function?
