RE: New college sport proposal
While I don't care for it (MMA) I can see its popularity professionally increasing the interest for wrestling and boxing as a spectator sport on the collegiate level. Boxing is still a club sport at some colleges I believe.

Wrestling does attract very large crowds at the elite programs. Iowa and Penn State competed in front of a crowd of almost 16,000 at a recent match. I wouldn't make a sweeping generalization that MMA is better than Wrestling either. LilTunchei wrote: College MMA. Would be sweet and better than wrestling. People would go.

It is. How many students go to wrestling matches vs. older folk? TheOhioArsenal wrote: Wrestling does attract very large crowds at the elite programs. Re: New college sport proposal
Because younger people might like it it is somehow better? ok It is just a personal preference after all but then again I have a hard time imagining someone like Pres. Gee approving a sport at OSU that allows punching the opponents head while sitting on their chest. Professionally, ok, in a student athlete setting, probably unseemly. LilTunchei wrote: It is. I don’t know much about it. I did read something about its format is like professional wrestling. If that’s case, I don’t want see it-- as we all know how fen’ fake that game is. But I could see how kids and old women would like it!!

Dudes come out of MMA beaten to a pulp 100% of the time and morons like you say it's safer than football. Yeah right. No one with any sense will ever believe this is true. --------------------------------------------- --- LilTunchei wrote: It's less dangerous than football. Ok name a major injury in MMA. Please getting their face cut open isn't as bad as a torn ACL. Or 300 concussions BobLobla wrote: Dudes come out of MMA beaten to a pulp 100% of the time and morons like you say it's safer than football. Yeah right. Re: New college sport proposal
How many MMA fights need to take place to match the man hours of one football game? 1 MMA fight = 2 men bashing each other for 15 minutes. That totals to 30 minutes of man power battling in the octagon. Football is 22 men getting after it on the gridiron for 60 minutes. That totals 22 man hours of battle during a football game. of course there will be more injuries in football because it would take 44 MMA fights to match the amount of combat hours of one football game. Percentage wise on a case by case and combatant vs combatant basis MMA is MUCH more dangerous. --------------------------------------------- --- LilTunchei wrote: Ok name a major injury in MMA. How so? The worst injuries in the UFC are concussions and maybe a broken nose? These guys don't have devastating knee injuries that are much worse. Even if 44 MMA fights happened I doubt anyone would suffer the serious injuries of the NFL.
