Not sure quite enough has been said of Shazier's 2012

115 Tackles
19 TFL
5 Sacks
11 Passes Defensed
3 Forced Fumbles
1 Interception

Those are All America numbers.  He should get better too, which is scary.

It was plain to see during Shazier's freshman year he was going to become a LB that all of us buckeye fans will remember for a long time.

Shazier would have won the Butkus award and been 1st team All american if he had a fake girlfriend that died and he exploited it for votes.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

Jarvis Jones should have won the Butkus but I think Shazier should have been a 1st teamer instead of a 2nd team

Blah blah.  Manti didn't exploit anything.  I'm not stupid enough to overlook the fact that playing for ND and having the media on your side is a major factor in garnering awards because it is. Especially when ND was having the type of season they were.  I've stated as much previously in threads here when Te'o was winning all the awards.  So, playing for ND and the season they were having along with the Te'o story certainly had major implications on a lot of it.  A WEAK heisman race added in also pushed him to NYC.  Manti had NOTHING to do with that stuff.  Blame the media for a lot of this.

I've been quiet for most of this saga because I didn't want to banter back and forth with idiotic Buckeye fans.  Instead I just let it  play out because I knew the truth about Manti and his involvement would come out (which was NONE).  You clowns have no clue what he was going through nor do you care to look at it objectively.  Your hate for Notre Dame (BTW I hate ND more than I hate Michigan) and blind love for Ohio State pollutes your ability to see this hoax for what it truly was.  Te'o and his upbringing socially, culturally and religiously is something most couldn't begin to understand.  Especially his culture upbringing in the town of La'ie.  Te'o had no clue what was going on during the hoax.  And it has been proven that Ronnaiah was able to fool the BEST experts (ie FBI & Secret Service) with his voice portrayal of Lennay.   With that said, I watched the entire Dr. Phil interview and this Ronaiah kid went through some horrible sexual abuse as a child.  Hopefully, he can recover and find himself.  I'm not worried about Manti one bit.  Dude will be fine, except his trust in people took a major hit.

hawaiin i feel ya dawg.

And maybe you have insider knowledge.

But to an outside observer there is only 3 options:

1. Manti is gay, and this whole thing blew up in his face.
2. He lied about the girl to get publicity.
3. He is a moron.

That's just the way the nation is going to view him. Esp after how he endorsed this being such an inspiration, and had no business being the most decorated LB of all time awards wise.

Gotta understand the bitterness from Buckeye fans when you compare the numbers.

Not gonna even reply to one of the village idiots know as RipRattle.

But for you.

He's NOT gay.  That's a fact.

He didn't lie about the girl until he got a call on Dec 6th when he was told she was still alive.  His whole world went into a tailspin and didn't know what to do.  Was she alive?  Dead? What?  He didn't even tell his parents until Christmas Eve along with a close family friend who he refers to as Uncle Keith.  I know Keith personally FWIW.  So, he just carried on after Dec 6th as if nothing happened because he himself had no idea what to believe.  That in hindsight was the best thing anyways.  Everything to him was real.  He wasn't responsible for the sensationalism of the story.  That's the media.  It's not always about stats as everyone knows.

He's not a moron.  Many people like Te'o have been duped in life.  Whether it's in this fashion or some business or investment deal etc.  People get taken all the time on scams.  Smart people are victims too.  He lived a different life than most and was sheltered a lot growing up.  Couple that with his culture and religion which was part of this sheltered life and you have a recipe for being very trustworthy and naive.  So, I get tired of people (you didn't say this) saying he's dumb or stupid.  As a matter of fact Te'o went to a school where 90% of the people who apply get rejected.  I'm not talking about Notre Dame either.  I'm talking about Punahou School.  For a kid like Te'o to do what he did at Punahou is incredible.  He lived on the North Shore and had to be on the road by 5:00am to get to school at 7:30am EVERYDAY!  Through all that he carried a 3.2 GPA and scored a whopping 1540 on his SAT.

It's times like watching this saga unfold and reading ignorant and stupid posts that make me embarrassed to be associated with all the FANATICAL Buckeye fans.  I even had this conversation with my ESPN friend Jay Crawford (HUGE Buckeye but BGSU alum) and we agreed that in general a good portion of Buckeye fans are the most self righteous fans out there but at the same time the worst losers in the country.

Sooo... Shazier.

Does anyone see a good comparison to one of the past's great linebackers of tOSU?

I think Shazier plays with a reckless abandon that is rarely emulated. And he looks skinnier than most of the linebackers I remember.

Any thoughts on this?

Scott, I think you are way off on calling the buckeye faithfull terrible. Thats not your exact words but thats how you feel and I have seen the way you talk about the fans for years now on the forums. Most buckeye fans are great and thats saying something because we are the biggest fan base in the nation. With being the biggest fan base, sure your going to have a portion of the fans who are irresponsible and dont know what the heck they are talking about. So for you and your little buddy jay to sit there and make an assumption as ridiculous as that just pisses me off. You are so annoying and always have something demeaning to say. We dont care that you were just a punter here, we dont care about your "famous" friends, and we are tired of hearing about the stupid hawaian culture. If you dont want to be a buckeye fan nobody is forcing you too.

Your blind loyalty to Manti because he played at your high school is so obvious. He clearly embellished the story and him and his dad got caught saying in multiple interviews how they met in person. I think he did get hoaxed but also was loving the attention from the media with the whole situation.

By the way Scott, another reason i dont care for you is how you confidently said that during the zanesville animal fiasco that the redneck sheriffs were shooting everything for fun even if they were in their cages. Its bullcrap like that through the years that you spew, even if you had no idea what happened. And like i told you I have family and friends that were involved with those shootings and its the worst thing they have been through and nobody enjoyed it, they even went through counseling. So scott, shut the hell up and idc if i get banned its a stupid message board.

Re: Not sure quite enough has been said of Shazier's 2012

I call em how I see em buddy.  You can be pissed at me I don't care because it's my opinion.  Not a fact.  Yeah, every fan base has their malcontents but the buckeyes version is the worst we've both seen.  That's our take.

I don't have a "blind" loyalty to Te'o.  I have a lot of more understanding of the situation that nobody who hasn't grown up in that environment of his or around it can understand.  I sat back and waited until he spoke and then until after Ronaiah spoke.  In the beginning things didn't look good for Te'o and I admitted that, but kept saying...I will wait for more information.  Not like the blood thirsty public so quick to crucify someone who they just can't seem to fathom being able to be so trusting and so naive in today's world.  The majority of the public doesn't want to believe that a person like Manit exists because we as a society have fallen so far from our core values and ideals that we can't or don't want to believe that someone could still hold on to those values so much.  Anyway I will digress from this point of yours.

You don't have to like what I say and that's fine.  Again, I don't care.  Not gonna hurt my feelings any.  I'm not going to get pissed off over it.

You don't have to care for me.  I don't even know who you are and don't care to.  My opinion on the Zanesville thing?  Yeah I wished it turned out better and yes, if you're shooting animals still in cages (that's what you just said) then that's total crap.  The ones out on the loose, yeah I get it but I still don't like it.  And as previously stated I don't care what you think and quite frankly you shouldn't care what I think.  Does it affect the way you eat, sleep, crap, or whatever?  No!  We all have opinions just like we all have aholes right?  So....carry on and feel free to put me on ignore!

what i meant regarding the zanesville thing was that YOU initially stated when it happened that the sheriffs were shooting animals still in their cages, but that wasnt the case.

Anyways back to the thread, Shazier in better than Manti and he should have another excellent year. Its a shame he doesn't play for Notre Dame or he would have won the heisman last year. The media infatuation with Notre Dame makes me sick

Re: Not sure quite enough has been said of Shazier's 2012

If that's what I stated then it's because I read it or heard it somewhere else in a report (probably an initial one at that).  I'm not just going to blindly say that!  I wasn't there.  Moving on...

Shazier vs Te'o that's all speculation to who's better.  Again, opinions...everyone has one.  Not every NFL talent evaluator would have the same opinion on these guys either.  So, we carry on...

Nobody was going to be Manziel in this week Heisman race.

The media and Notre Dame?  Nobody denies that.  Partly why I hate Notre Dame more than anyone including Michigan.  The other?  Because it seems every damn person that's Catholic seems to like Notre Dame just because they're Catholic.  I hate organized religion and well, they're damn near the bottom of my list.

Ignore button is always available. tongue

I am an outside observer and I disagree with everything you just said. The first 2 days the news broke, I wanted to see how outrageous this story could get. I was looking forward to the twist and turns. I wanted to believe so bad that he did in fact lie about the coverup and he was gay, just to see the publicity that news would garner.

If you have paid an ounce of attention to this story for the past couple of weeks you would know that Manti was catfished. Roniah was on Dr. Phil this week and it turned out he was indeed the voice of "Lennay". Tell me, why would you call and leave voicemails and talk to Manti in a female voice? As much as you want something to be true, there is no need to continue to berate a man because he got duped.

Whatever. Lol

Trust in people? Dude, he went through that situation like a 3-year old kid. So fringing naive.

Manti will not be fine. He will be laughed out of the NFL within one year. I hope he has a legitimate degree from ND

Did T'eo ever answer why he didn't go see this supposed girl....

1. When she was supposedly in a serious car wreck?

2. When she was then told that she had Leukemia?

3. When she was then on her death bed?

I've heard the story about her telling him to play a football game as opposed to going to the funeral. But wouldn't you look up the obit' or go visit the grave site after the fact? She died in early September, and he never followed up on her supposed death until getting a phone call in December?

I can buy that he was initially duped. What I have a hard time wrapping my head around, is why he never visited her when all of these tragedies happened. Or at the very least, tried to find out some details.
