One joke said this:

"I think the scandal is this girl felt violated after Mack pulled Applewhite and substituted Chris Simms halfway."

Coop, Unless Major advised the university i'm really not seeing much of a difference here. Seems to me the university found out about Bev ten years after the fact and about Major soon after it happened. I'm reading this as if the university finds out soon you get a slap on the wrist [Major] but if they find out late [Bev] they get fired. Seems Bev has a case!

Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds just released the following statement:

“Major Applewhite engaged in inappropriate, consensual behavior with an adult student one time during the 2009 Fiesta Bowl activities. After learning of his behavior later that month, I took immediate action to review the situation. We promptly initiated an inquiry with assistance from the university’s Legal Affairs office and other units outside of Athletics. Major admitted his inappropriate conduct and he was disciplined. In determining appropriate discipline, we analyze the facts and circumstances surrounding the behavior and its relation to job responsibilities. Major fully accepted his discipline, including counseling. We have high standards for behavior and expect our staff and coaches to adhere to them in all aspects of their lives. I believe that the appropriate discipline was taken in this case.”

Is this tied to the shakedown that UT faced a couple of years ago?

Engaged in inappropiate consensual behavior with an adult. How dare such things go on, 30 years to life wouldn't be enough. banghead  eek1

Their 2009 Fiesta Bowl victory should be treated as a forfeit; whomever they beat should be awarded that BCS trophy.

They're very different.  Major who was 29 at the time, had a one night stand with a 24 year old trainer while in Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl and then reported it do DeLoss as soon as he got back to Austin.  According to the guidelines in place, The University policy applies only to relationships involving an employee and a student that is "directly supervised, taught, evaluated or advised" by said employee which doesn't apply to Major's case since he was not in any kind of authoritative position over her.  But even if it did, the policy states only that it needs to be reported immediately which Major did.  This is evident by the fact that his salary was frozen for almost a full year starting in February of 2009.

Coach Kearney's affair not only went unreported for 10 years, but was with a student on her track team and it was not a one night stand but rather a relationship that lasted for months, so it does fall under The University's guidelines.  Coach Kearney really has no case, but that is not to say she can't manufacture one with the right ambulance chaser.  Kearney is a black, disabled, lesbian who was fired after a 10 year old relationship was uncovered while Major was essentially fined $260,000 and then a couple of years later was promoted.  They are two very different cases, but that doesn't matter to a lawyer that loves the camera.  I have no doubt The University will settle with Kearney at some point but for how much and after how long depends only on how many discrimination suits she files.

I don't understand the big deal, unless it was someone that MA coached or taught.  What if the college girl was in her 30 and enrolled part time? Is it still an investigable offense. What if she were in her 50's and auditing a couple of classes? Geesh

I was really disappointed that she was fired because she is a damn good coach, but I can see why too.

She was a student trainer. He was an assistant coach. In the modern work force, you don't touch someone if you even have a hint of power over them. Even if they aren't directly reporting to you. If she wasn't working for the athletic department, it would be different.

I don't care who boffs who. If it was consentual adults, we need not be informed, and we shouldne't care.

This is typical American hypocrisy at its best. People worried about something they have no business worrying about. That's why Europe is great. Adults have sex. They accept that. Americans get their panties in a bunch over anything and everything involving sex.

IMHO i'd disagree with her  being a great coach but i would say she was a great recruiter at one time. Not so sure that is still true since TEX A&M is now dominant instate program.
