what is catfishing?
"Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice." Carl Spackler

Re: Michigan Catfished its own players
Great question. Prior to the T'eo debacle I had never heard of it, but is apparently quite prevalent. From urban dictionary: | 1. | catfish | 1292 up, 850 down | A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances. Did you hear how Dave got totally catfished last month?! The fox he thought he was talking to turned out to be a pervy guy from San Diego! or I was really falling for that gorgeous gal on Facebook, but she turned out to be a catfish. |

To be honest, this looks on the surface to be an effective way to address some of the issues of social networking from the university's perspective. Seems better than players not paying attention to some geeky administrator.

Not sure how I feel about that overall, however, definitely would teach them a lesson.

Kudos to Brandon. I think it was a good idea. Better to be taught that lesson in house than having it blow up in your face the way it did for Notre Dame.

Note to men everywhere, if a hot girl contacts you on the internet looking for a date its probably not real. How many hot chicks do you know who need to use the internet to find a date? I really can't understand how ANYONE falls for this, let alone a college football player.

RE: Michigan Catfished its own players
It was probably Dave Brandon himself who catfished the players. Sounds like Brandon is a real creep and probably got off on the whole thing.

shiplett77 wrote: what is catfishing? It's a poorly explained term that has gained widespread use in the media lately, because of the Manti T'eo debacle. The origin is the movie Catfish (2010) which involves an online identity set up to deceive a man into having a relationship with a fake (non-existent) person. For the first few days of the T'eo scandal I thought the term involved a scandal having to do with baseball great Jim "Catfish" Hunter, only to find out it was nowhere as interesting.

The catfish session between UM and Tate Forcier would've been magical.
Tate: UGH, sometimes I just wanna hurt Denard so I can get my starting spot back.
HotGirl: ...Please don't do that.

Two things that just DO NOT belong in the same sentence.....Hot girl and scUM. I have always said that if you want to be seen with a good looking woman in Michigan you better take her with you.

Social media isn't the same for college age people as for us older folk. No, you or I are not going to get approached by some hot girl, but a college star? Probably happens a lot.

Would offering Brady Hoke fake free buffet tickets be considered catfishing too?
