Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
My roommate, who is an avid Michigan fan, got into a large argument today about what the most important plays in Ohio State history. I told him I guarantee that if I give you guys the opportunity to name 3 of the most important plays in Ohio State history that you will name one of the ones that we argued about.
So my question to you is: "what are the three most important plays in Ohio State football history?"

Not the biggest....maybe not in the top 10.....but I loved the Troy Smith to Anthony Gonzalez completion against scUM.

'Holy Buckeye' and MoC stripping the ball..........at least that I can remember. "Spring's slips" is also up there as that probably cost us a NC that year.

I'll throw some love to Jenkins' 4th-and-14 catch in the first OT of the NC game. No catch, game over, no title.

RE: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
So many options from that 2002 season would fit here. Allen's int's against Cincy and Michigan. Holy Buckeye, the strip, Allen's hit on McGahee, Grant pressuring Dorsey, Gamble's pix-6 against PSU and on..
This season had quite a few options too, Shazier denying Bell, Miller-to-Smith against Cal and MSU and Guiton for 2 come to mind.
A play that no one thinks about came in the Rose Bowl against Oregon when the Ducks were about to take a 24-19 lead late in the 3rd quarter but LaGarrette Blount fumbled into the endzone and I believe Kurt Coleman jumped on it. From there OSU just milked the 4th quarter away and won 26-17.

RE: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
Thank you! Holy Buckeye was the play I was looking for. I couldn't believe he was arguing with me that it wasn't one of the best plays in OSU history!
We also mentioned the Maurice Clarett strip on Sean Taylor and the Anthony Gonzalez catch on the Drive in the 2005 Michigan game. I like the mention of the David Boston TD as one of the more important in my lifetime (I was born in 1991 so the 1997 Rose Bowl is one of the first games I can recall)!

Re: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
You know, for as important a play that Holy Buckeye was, people always seem to forget that Purdue still had a chance to win that game...After we scored, Purdue threw a deep ball and Chris Gamble came out of nowhere to intercept it - For a second it looked like a sure catch and score, which would have essentially won the game for Purdue. But with that said, Holy Buckeye is likely the most important play that I've witnessed in my lifetime. Others that come to mind are Clarrett's strip of Sean Taylor after he intercepted a pass, and of course the clutch plays in OT to win the game against Miami - most notably the 4th and 12 to Jenkins.
Pryor's pass to Ballard in the Rose Bowl was also big, but I wouldn't go as far as to classify it top 3...just recent in my mind.

RE: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
Kenny Guiton's 39yd completion on 1st and 10 with 0.47 left after throwing a INT the previous possession.
Nugent's 55yd FG for the win over Marshall as time expires.
No penalty called when Jennings holds Gamble on 3rd & 6 and 2:30 left in mNC.
Gamble's INT against Penn State.
Gamble's INT after 'Holy Buckeye'... looks like Purdue's WR would have made the catch.

RE: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
No, it happened late in the 3rd quarter of the '54 game with the scored tied 7-7. Michigan had 1st and goal at the 2. Three plays later it was 4th and goal from the 1. The Buckeye line, led by big Jim Parker, stopped Dave Hill of Michigan just a few inches short of the goal line. The Buckeyes would then drive 99 1/2 yards for the go ahead TD and wound up winning the game 21-7 capping off an undefeated season and AP National Championship. One of the great plays and great games in Buckeye football history. Chidragon wrote:

Re: Most Important Plays in Ohio State History
It is a negative one, but an important one. Woody punching the Clemson player in the bowl game. It ended a career that probably should have ended, but I did not want to see Woody go out that way. Woody did too many good things in his life to be remembered for this one senseless act.
