RE: Corey Smith & '13 WR depth chart...

I get a sneaky feeling your gonna see a much more wide open offense. I think you'll see a bunch of 3-4-5 WR sets...basically every down. Every WR will play. The passing game will be much better next year.

RE: Corey Smith & '13 WR depth chart...

Earl Bruce, who is Meyer's mentor and has been in the OSU war room as a ton, stated after the season what is heard elsehwhere ( I know a person, ex player inside the OSU AD department and works with Meyer), Urban Meyer and OSU ran 30% of their offensive war room play book, that is it. End of story, period.
Urban went 12-0, and between what him and Hermann have play book wise, 70% is yet to be shown, and Meyer is going to start working in the pistol offense, just like Harbaugh has with the 49ers.
Those plays you saw at Florida like veer option looks and flow going one way, and a shovel pass along the LOS to Hernandez for huge gains at UF, OSU has practiced a ton, we have never shown yet.
70% of that Gator offense and the pistol, not even shown yet.

RE: Corey Smith & '13 WR depth chart...

Corey Smith looked good in his highlights. Then again, I wasn't sure if I was watching highlights of a high school game or a JUCO game.

The coaches really seemed to see something in Thomas last season, his PT seemed to grow as the season went on.

And as someone else mentioned, Marshall will be in the mix as well.

What Corey Smith might do, is light a fire under Devin's ass.

Re: Corey Smith & '13 WR depth chart...

Why do people think freshmen are always going to come in and jump others w/the same talent, -others who have experience under their belt? Last year it was Michael Thomas who would jump everyone.

Players who have been on the roster for a year or more have already adjusted to the speed of Div 1 ball. High school speed to this level is a huge jump so it usually takes time and touches.

Also, I believe Evan Spencer is going to be a captain. He is going to be very key for the WR unit this year.

JC Shurburtt‏@jcshurburtt
On #Buckeyes commit Corey Smith- @GerryH247sports saw him earlier this year and thinks he's big, big, big time. #SigningDay

Shurburtt said he was on the same level as the top 2013 class Receivers, like treadwell and foster. I think OSU got themselves an impact receiver

He isn't being brought in as a Junior to redshirt.

BuckMike wrote: In reading comments from numerous posts Smith is quite a talent and will contribute this upcoming season. With that said where do you see him fitting in the depth chart ?

Do does he pass Thomas & Spencer putting him #3 behind Thomas & Philly ? That's my hunch...

GO BUCKS !!!

Fields, Spencer and Thomas did not seem to have great ability to create space between them and the defender. Smith on the other hand has great ability to explode into his cut with strength and create immediate and significant space between him and the defender. This makes him a high choice for the short to short medium passing game IMHO.

Re: Corey Smith & '13 WR depth chart...

It would not surprise me at all if Smith became the #3 WR, although Spencer still has a ton of untapped potential. Heck, if Devin Smith doesn't hang onto the ball better, it wouldn't surprise me if Corey became the #2 WR-consistency will tell he story here.

Devin Smith, Corey Brown and Corey Smith start, followed by Jalin Marshall, Evan Spencer and Taivon Jacobs

Dont get me wrong, Spencer is a really, really good player. But Corey Smith is better. No doubt.

I think Philly Brown, Devin Smith, Corey Smith and Jalin Marshall will be the receivers. Marshall will be used in that Harvin role. With Philly, Devin and Corey, we'll have a lot of speed at the receiver position.

Every kid that gets a d-1 scholley is good. but are they great? Are we watching the same games. I really don't know how good our receivers are? B.M couldn't read a D to get them the ball. Count to 4 and run, just look at one receiver. B.M is a great runner. passing, not so much. Hope to seeing something different this year. and by the way. as of right now. we don't have and nfl wide out on our team. They have done nothing for us to warrent them to be studs or even great.
