Braxton or Manziel?

Braxton or Manziel?

This will be debated at length next year. I fear we will have an overwhelming pick considering the board. Who will be the better college QB in 2013 and why?

    Braxton or Manziel in 2013

  1. Poll closed on 02/02/2013
  2. Braxton: 76 votes
  3. Manziel: 132 votes

Re: Braxton or Manziel?

Braxton is more talented but Manziel just is alot smarter and is better at scrambling and making things happen when the play breaks down. He also has more touch and accuracy on short passes

RE: Braxton or Manziel?

In 2013, the smart money would still be on Manziel simply because of his accuracy. Both are athletes, but Manziel isn't in Braxton's class of dangerous on every snap elusiveness. The thing I like about Braxton is that he is aware of where his issues are and doesn't force it. Someone like Denard, it almost seemed as if he wasn't aware that he couldn't accurately throw, and despite coaching, continued to make the same errors.

Braxton already surpassed that as a true sophomore. If Braxton develops, he'll be better simply because of his skill set. It's hard to tell with QB's and touch. Some develop, some don't. More amazing than Kapernick's running against GB was his throwing against Atlanta. That's a different QB than the kid at Nevada. He lacked touch at that point back then and I didn't foresee him developing into what he is. It's simply a matter of how fast is the learning curve when you are talking about very skilled players such as Braxton. He's already great, but is he going to be off the charts? We'll see. Would help to get him some more weapons. He wasn't working with a great arsenal.

RE: Braxton or Manziel?

I will readily admit I am a hater. I hate the offense TAMU runs because IMO its the receivers doing the majority of the work yet the media wants to jump on the QB band wagon and give him all the credit. there are a lot of passes to WRs behind the LOS where another WR makes a block and the receiver makes a guy miss. boom 7-12 yards more if a LB doesnt get there fast enough or someone else misses a tackle. Im just not impressed from a QB play standpoint. I dont mean to belittle everything he does he is a good QB but I think his system won his heisman more than his actual abilities. if he does it again to the defenses in the sec then Ill eat a buffet of crow.

I think Braxton makes more offense using his own talent than does Manziel. So I voted Braxton

I am a homer so voted Braxton. Manziel was the better QB at the end of 2012 for sure.

If you "fear an overwhelming pick considering the board" why start the poll?

Manziel had a better season, no doubt, but seems like a loose cannon. Miller has his head on straight, I'd much rather have him for '13.

Re: Braxton or Manziel?

Manziel is the better player right now. Braxton is 100 times more level headed. I'm a homer and I love the humility and stability that he's brought to the program. I'm also very hopeful that he will develop his passing game. I pick Braxton though I know I'm choosing with my heart more than my head on this one.

Re: Braxton or Manziel?

Manziel loses some of his OL. He wont have all day to throw now, and I suspect as a result will throw more INTs.
Braxton, OTOH, is learning how to play QB still, and our OL will be even better as well as Braxton will have more playmkers at his disposal in Marshall, Elliott, and possibly Wilson.
I think it is Braxton's to lose right now.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Andrew Brown
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

System QBs were always laughed at until this year, for whatever reason. Now the Air Raid is serious guys, like, for real.

I think we both know why it is given credence now, it was done in the S-E-C!

It will be interesting to see how the DC's adjust.

RE: Braxton or Manziel?

Let's assume that they were equal players. I still think Sumlin's QB is putting up the bigger numbers.

Manziel had 5,116 Total Yards.

That is 1,000 more yards than Tebow's best season.

That's 800 more yards than Cam Newton's Heisman year at Auburn.

Meyer's philosophy is much different than a Sumlin, June Jones, Leach, etc...

braxton is more talented, manziel is the better and smarter player now.

manziel seems like a cocky clown who is an idiot off the field.

RE: Braxton or Manziel?

It's funny that you mention that, because out side of the Alabama game he was mediocre against the SEC. 7 TDs and 7 turnovers vs BCS teams with a .500 or better record, which was 5 teams.

I did the comparison to Cam Newton's season one time. He faced 8 BCS teams with a .500 or better record and his stats were something like 28 TDs compared to 4 turnovers.

Manziel put up 25% of his TDs and yards against two FCS teams. They had them throwing the ball up 35-0 in the third quarter.

So, yeah, Manziel will put up better numbers. I'll still take Miller.

Re: Braxton or Manziel?

How many people watched a game with Johnny Football in it? I watched the Bama game and their bowl game and both times came away saying, "damn that kid can ball". Braxton has shown moments of greatness, but until he develops as a passer he is going to be behind Manziel.

Better question, who is more likely to have an NFL career...Braxton!

I think Manziel is a better QB but I voted Braxton.

I'm biased but this is more a vote against Manziel than it is a vote for Braxton.

I can't help but think the cockiness and extracurriculars are going to come back to haunt Manziel.

That as well as the fact 12 coaches are watching a bunch of film all off-season.

I think Braxton will be better in 2013 simply because he will be playing way lower competition.

RE: Braxton or Manziel?

Braxton is without doubt one hell of an athlete and also not a bad quarterback for someone who has very little qualified coaching in his career. He is going to end up being a great Buckeye quarterback and maybe even a NFL quarterback one of these days but I really like the way that Manziel gets rid of the football. He gets it out of his hands about as quick as anyone I have seen lately. Sort of reminds me of Brees in the quickness that he get the ball out of his hands.
