Re: Bigger loss - Hankins or Simon??

Hankins because without him attracting the attention of two and sometimes three blockers Simon wouldn't have been nearly as productive.

Hankins came out on passing situations and obviously Simon did not. However, the double teams Hankins got benefitted others on the line. I know we beat Michigan without Johnny Simon. I wonder if we could have beaten them without Hankins.

Simon's my favorite player of the last 5 years, but Big Hank plugged up the middle preventing anyone from running it up the gut. I'll take him.

Hankins by a wide margin.  We have guys that can play on the outside.  Washington played the entire game when Simon couldnt go.

We do not have a proven difference maker on the inside.  Schutt may eventually be that guy... but we also lost Goebel.    With all due respect,  Hale and Shutt isnt on the same level as Hankins and Goebel right now...

RE: Bigger loss - Hankins or Simon??

this was a really good question and its interesting to see the different points of view from different people....

as far as their play on the field Simon made more impact plays consistantly being in the backfield but Hankins did a lot more that goes unnoticed plugging the middle, taking on double teams so I think its a push....

as for the guys coming up behind them...the talent level is just insane all the way across, our future with washington and schutt at DT is amazing and between bosa, spence, bennett and miller there is gonna be pressure so again its a push...

what I think were gonna miss the most is simon's leadership, Meyer will always be able to bring talent in but those type of guys are a lot harder to find....so I don't see how the choice isn't simon

Both were huge for us, but Simon's leadership will be sorely missed. He was one of Urban's favorite players from day one.

Re: Bigger loss - Hankins or Simon??

We were spoiled with both. I'd take Simon for his leadership, motor, and the havoc he caused. Not often you get a DT playing end, and he made more plays. But, this was the best line since 2002 and Hankins was a big part of that. NFL size and strength in the middle. I'd love to have him here in Carolina next year.
