Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.

How about a different approach. Putnpremium tix on sale for $300 per game, which people will pay for, and drop the price for Akron games to $40.

As to poster who validated this by asking another poster if they wanted to get the most primo players, is he suggesting the school needs the funds to pay those same recruits. Quitefrankly the cost of going to games whether it be at OSU or Michigan is out of control.

I'm with you 24.  I'm leaning in that direction as the experience is not at the level it used to be.  IMO things have slowly changed for the worse after the '02 season due to the stupidity that happened after The Game.  Gameday on campus equates to Lane Ave and High St experience border-line sucks, lots of control freaks (i.e., can't do this, can't go there), expensive arse concessions, parking farther and farther away on Gameday, too many seat holders (I won't call them fans) believe it is some sort of social event when watching a game, etc.  This coming from a guy who used to be a season ticket holder for 5 seasons and my first game experience was with my dad during Woody's last year playing against Iowa.  Personally I prefer the road trips anymore.

I know one thing... Am not looking forward to the consistent <100,000 watching a game inside The Shoe.  It's going to happen folks.

Go BUCKS!!!

I think you'll slowly see that decrease....and people will just pony up the money for single games against big opponents. People are slowly becoming less enthusiastic about paying $70/ticket to see a game against U Mass.
I don't think society needs to be paying $5 million a year for football coaches......where's the limit? If their pay continues to increase 10% annually, they'll be making $10 million 7 years from now......and $20 million a year, 14 years from now. You comfortable with that?
Ahhhh... an Obamam communist rears his ugly head.

Would you rather pay a coach $100K and the football team makes $1 million or would you rather pay him $5MM and his team makes $100MM?   Be careful with your answer, this is a very difficult question for Obama communists to answer correctly.

Football coaches MAKE THE UNIVERSITY MONEY.   They are not a COST center, they generate SALES...   which generates profits, which pays for other things which drives our economy which funds tax receipts.

There is a limit to the pay of the school's swimming coach becuase they don't make the school any money.   The limit of a football coaches pay is directly dependent to the limit on the revenue they bring to the school.   It's called Capitalism.   You pay more in hopes of making more.

Meh... wasting my breath.   All you know is that Urban makes $5 million and you don't.  You aren't getting your fair share so you'll vote for "change".

Re: Ticket Price Increase

One of the Cbus news stations last night said that basketball tickets are going up $4-$6 per game as well.  How do they justify that in an arena that is at best 3/4 full most pre-B1G games and several B1G games?  Even on the low end of $4 per ticket, that's a 20% increase on my season tickets in the 300 level to watch Savannah State quality opponents?  No thanks.

Re: Ticket Price Increase

I know my season ticket package will expire when this takes place.  I had difficulties getting rid of $70 tix for these crap games, can't imagine $80 now.  Oh well, looks like scalping or sitting in front of 60" HD TV will be on my list come fall Saturday's.

RE: Ticket Price Increase

You know what they say... If a certain percentage of people aren't complaining that your price is too high, than you need to raise your prices!!!

Fewer season ticket holders (won't happen) will mean more tickets available for single game sales. Overall, you get an increase in ticket sales revenue and the same amount of people at the game!

They may upset some fans, but plenty of others will be happy knowing (or they may not even be aware of why) they can make it to Columbus for a game because tickets are available! Right now, if you're not an alumni, current student, season ticket holder or know that you can legally and reasonably scalp tickets day of game... Many think they just CAN'T get to a game at all.

RE: Ticket Price Increase

$1000 for season tickets is cheaper than going through Ohio State in the past. The people selling those aren't making much money if any at all. You need to donate a minimum of $1500 before you can buy 2 tickets at face value. It comes to around $2300 every year.

I'm not sure we are, 2013 season tickets are going for like $1000 on StubHub.  That like averages out to $142 / home game ticket.  My guess is they could easily go to $100-125 and not suffer any negative consequences.

While you might have a psychological price barrier that's about to be met, you're forgetting about the hundreds of thousands of people (like me) that would buy tickets but can't AND the thousands of alumni who would buy more tickets if the lottery allowed.

It takes a lot of money to pay for Rutgers and Iowa's football program -- let's get those prices up to ensure our own financial security!!  The future dominance of the Ohio State football program depends on it!!

This is very true. I keep seeing people talk about ticket prices that I would have been happy to pay for the last few years.

I live out of state and have no way of getting tickets other than stubhub or scalping. I go to two or three game a year, typically one OOC weakling and one good team either home or away, have been doing that for about 10 years.

I don't think I've ever seen a $30 ticket as some claim is suddenly the norm. Maybe a few $50 singles with bad views but typically $100-$150 for an OOC or $150-$200 per B1G game. UM and Bowls have been $300-$600 with NC being $600-1,000.

This seems like it will have no impact on me and expect the prices I pay to be the exact same with a larger % ending up with OSU and less with a scalper.

Re: Ticket Price Increase

Question for anyone here: When do the football tickets go on sale usually? I keep saying I will go to my first ever game but I never know when the exact sales times are. Thanks.

A agree for the out of town buyer, who has to do Planes, Trains and Automobiles and hotel to go to a game.... A lot of times, Scalper is the season ticket holder, recouping his yearly fees

This is a great point.  I'm already paying $350-400 for a flight and $200-250 for 2 nights at a hotel plus meals and transportation.  What do I care if ticket prices go up?  If anything it helps me have more options to get tickets.

That's probably true. Let me ask my significant other, who is Puerto Rican-American.

You paying $110 to see Wisconsin next season?

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Board of Trustees will vote Friday to approve higher prices for football and basketball tickets that athletic director Gene Smith should raise an extra $6 million a year for the Buckeyes' athletic department.

For 2013, football tickets will go up in price from $70 to $79. There will be one premium game designated, against Wisconsin, that will cost $110.

In future years, there may be one or two premium games chosen by Smith. A home game with Michigan will always be designated as such. If there are two premium games in a year, one will cost $125 and the other $150. If there is just one premium game, it could cost $175.

The athletic director will determine the premium games before each season.

The board's finance committee discussed the prices in a meeting Thursday, with Smith there to answer questions. There was no dissent among the committee members and the measure is expected to pass Friday.

Smith said there was no consideration given to lowering the prices of lesser games in the tiered pricing, because the Buckeyes sell out all their games. He doesn't expect that to change, and the doesn't expect the demographics of the fans in the stadium to change with this move.

If Ohio State stops selling out, Smith then the price structure would be looked at.

Smith also said he expects that with the coming Big Ten expansion to 14 teams, the Big Ten will move to either nine or 10 conference games a year. He said he is almost sure there is no chance of staying at eight conference games. Smith thinks the nine games is the most likely outcome.

Man, $110 for wisconsin, $150-$175 for the michigan game in the future?  Seems excessive.  Although the worst part might be paying $79 to watch buffalo or florida a&m

If I am paying $110 for the Wisconsin game, then I expect to pay $10 for the Florida A&M game. Somehow, I doubt that will happen.

A family of four will approach $1000 to see tsun.  At $899 it's cheaper to buy a 55" 1080p, then kick back with your favorite frosty adult beverage and catch EVERY game in living color...
