RE: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
The money machine keeps on trucking. Someday the fans will push back. It might be 5 months or 50 years from now.....but the fans will someday so No. I think the first crack in the foundation will be demand for season tickets. I think you'll slowly see that decrease....and people will just pony up the money for single games against big opponents. People are slowly becoming less enthusiastic about paying $70/ticket to see a game against U Mass.

It's going to end up being like NFL where 50% of the tickets are purchased by businesses.
I'm just glad I can hang on to my memories of the days of a $48 student season ticket and $17 single game tix.
My young sons may possibly never develop the love of the Buckeyes like I did at an early age by being able for my parents to afford to buy me tickets.

As the alumni base grows, demand grows, assuming the product stays relatively good. If cost is a concern, ticket holders will just opt for less games with the excess tickets gobbled up from new ticket holders on the sideline. Simple economics and no different than professional sports in a growing city.

Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
I live in the state of Michigan and have been a Buckeye fan for as long as I remember, I'm 45 years old now. I used to go to OSU football games alot. Since late 90's I went to 2-3 OSU home games per year. I haven't been to a game since 2010 because my kids are in a Catholic High School that eats alot of money up, but that's our choice. I probably won't be coming down to a game in the near future either. I love the atmosphere around Ohio Stadium on game days. I've even brought friends that root for other teams, and they say there is nothing like that scene any where they've been. I'll just sit at home and continue to watch the games on TV. Sad to see this is all about money, but that's what the world has come to. Oh well, GO BUCKS!!!!

Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
I'm a season ticket holder, but if this happened I may just cancel my tickets and opt to go to 2-3 games a year and pay scalp prices.
Right now, by the time I pay for 2 tickets, gas, lunch, and drinks it's a $300-400 day. I don't mind that for big games, but to see Kent State get blown out by 50 it's a little much.
All supply and demand I guess. For many years over the last decade, OSU could have sold 300,000 tickets if they had the capacity.
The University is becoming more privatized by the year...which should be no surprise since Kasich (sp?) said he wanted to make the University semi-private. They are already starting to reduce the number of in-state students they accept every year in order to focus on a higher academic profile. Good for the reputation of the University around the world, bad for Ohio.

Smerc wrote: does anyone know how the alumni tickets work, i just graduated last month and am clueless A) you pay $60 (maybe $50) to join alumni association EACH YEAR (or a 1-time payment of somewhere around $1200 for a lifetime membership). This makes you ELIGIBLE for the lottery, but guarantees nothing. In May you enter your name in the lottery. If you win, you are charged for 2 (tix) in June/July ($75 each i think last year?). At this point you are notified of which game you won tickets to (no changes). http://www.ohiostatealumni.org/resources/member-be nefits/Pages/Footballticketlottery.aspx B) Join the Buckeye Club (at minimum Scarlet and Gray Level for $1500 per/yr) and get the opportunity to purchase 2 season tix (@ $75 per ticket per game). http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/buckeyeclu b/spec-rel/benefits-chart.html

Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
On the OP:
Dont like it either. It's not the paying more for bigger games, its the idea that they will charge more for those (MSU, scUM, PSU, etc) but continue to charge $75 for Akron and Western Michigan.

If our cheerleaders were more diverse than suburban WASPs, that could happen. Ever seen the cheerleaders at diverse campuses? Stanford, Miami and Hawaii are like United Colors of Benetton ads and most of them are beautiful. Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
Ugh--a classic example of racial animus that comes from someone trying to be "inclusive" and "politically correct." If this were reversed, and instead of "suburban WASPS" (evidently of the breastless variety), someone said "inner-city ethnics" the accusations of racism would fly. TheStoicPaisano wrote: If our cheerleaders were more diverse than suburban WASPs, that could happen.

False:
Oregon's cheerleaders look the Dallas-Cowgirls.
When its less about cheer and more about glam, the results show.

Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
How about we get rid of some of the lesser athletic programs that bring nothing to the table, but eat costs of scholarships. Tired of the constant price increases on school, tickets, etc..Why not charge 50$ for parking as well?

Re: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
Am I the only one that has absolutely no problem scalping tickets for most games for under $20 a pop? Walk around the stadium near kickoff time for most of the pre big ten games and people are just giving away tickets. Even many of the big ten games last year, tickets could be scalped for less than $25 a piece.

Football fans are obsessed with football, they live vicariously through their favorite teams. Just read what people on this board say. As long as this love affair continues fans will give their left nut to get tic's. So supply and demand will remain constant.

Would you pay $200 to see OSU vs. Akron in the Shoe in the last row of B Deck? Because that's where it's going if they continue to raise ticket prices 5-10% a year like they have been.

RE: Saw this off twitter from TOS...not a fan of it either.
At the end of the day, the Ohio State Athletic program is essentially putting the money back into programs. Its not like the school is a for profit institution and simply passing the increase in ticket prices to its owners. Below are a few quotes from the article. Unless everyone wants the Buckeyes to start cutting back on other programs and facility upgrades, the ticket prices will have to continue to increase. It appears a little hypocritical when people proudly announce Ohio State's althletic revenue and its support of numerous Olympic sports, but then we complain about ticket prices. Like everything in life, you have choices to make. Its a privilege to get tickets for Football games, not a right. “(The increase) has absolutely nothing to do with football coaches’ salaries,” Wilson said. “We have serious deferred maintenance problems. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get donors to give money for replacing a roof or resealing Ohio Stadium.”
The Horseshoe is currently undergoing a $4.3 million project that involves recoating concrete to waterproof the stadium and repair other sections of concrete. Value City Arena’s $19 million, two-part plan includes the addition of new practice gyms, an expanded strength and conditioning area and a new court. It will be completed in the spring.
Ohio State is one of a handful of athletic departments in the country that is fully self-sustaining and does not receive subsidies from the university. In fact, the athletic department has supported several university-wide endeavors, including the renovation of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library. Running on a surplus at the time, the department donated $10 million to the project.
