As a family, they have done quite well for themselves and more power to them.  I think Johnny's Dad is trying to raise the kid right.  There is a famous story about Johnny getting arrested for underage drinking while in high school and his Dad selling the kid's new car and making him drive an old beat-up ride.  I think his Dad is trying to reign the kid in some and it looks to be working.

And living in College Station myself and having met Paul Manziel and done business with Michelle Manziel a time or two, I will say that I find it hard to believe that the Manziels are hated by most in the Kerrville area. Both of them couldn't have been more cordial and seem quite ordinary and unpretentious. Michelle is what my wife describes as "very sweet".
