Shanahan sat him vs cleveland against RG3 wishes. If RG3 is pushing to play and the doctors claim he is good enough to go (he wouldnt play if the team doctor didnt give the ok) then you play him. He will get his knee surgery and will be back next year.

It was obvious to anyone with eyeballs that RG3 shouldn't have been on the field during his last couple of series.  He could barely hobble, much less run.  At that point, he became a liability playing against a defense like Seattle.  Cousins had done a find job as backup in previous games...should have put him in earlier.

There was a detailed story on the news wires earlier today in which famed orthopedist James Andrews -- who is a Redskins consultant, and was on the sideline today -- said that Shanahan did not consult him, and he (Andrews) did not clear Griffin to play.

As the earlier poster said, Shanahan is going to catch some grief.

Whether a player wants to play or not, the usual modus operandi calls for a doctor's approval to play. It's not a league rule. It's commonly accepted common sense.

The story in USA today talks about Dr. Andrew not clearing him on Dec. 9 not today's game.  He missed the next game and has played the two weeks afterwards. Yes he will catch flak but he was cleared to play today and wanted to play. what else is he supposed to do as a coach?

RGIII has some skinny legs (similar to a wideout).  Playing QB the way he does right now, not sure he's gonna be able to go through many seasons, if any, when he's not injured.  I hope I'm wrong or that they change the way they use him so he doesnt take as many hits.  He seems like a great kid and is really fun to watch.

Seriously, they should have sat him midway through the 3rd Qtr.  It was obvious he could not move nor plant to throw.

Better do more research.

He's the team doc (orthopedist, not internist) for the Redskins. And Alabama. And Auburn.

Yes it was mentioned that the doctor said he hadn't even looked at RG3, so he couldn't have cleared him

This is what happened, the poster above misread the article. He didn't examine him. There was some miscommunication amongst the Redskins staff, management and player. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone getting heat for it.

Sounds more like they avoided having him be checked by a doctor mid game because he wouldn't have been cleared.

Seattles defense was brutal yesterday. 99 Branch I think was the baddest mo fo on the field and he was letting everyone know.

If i were shannahan id have been afraid to put either of those rookie QBs out there against him.
