Cleveland area?
I am considering taking a job in the Cleveland area and was looking for advice on the different parts of town. I've only been there once and know very little about the area. I'm married and schools are important to us. My wife and I are thinking about the Twinsburg area. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Cleveland area?
You are in the right vicinity. Stick to the SE side near Chagrin Falls, Solon, Aurora, and Husdon. Those are the nicest areas and I think that is where a lot of the newer houses have been built.

Re: Cleveland area?
Depends where your working. Good recommendations above for east side. If you go west check out Bay Village, Rocky River, and Avon lake. Great public school systems without buying a million dollar house in Hudson. Also right on the lake.

Re: Cleveland area?
Gates Mills, Solon, Chagrin Falls, Aurora, Twinsburg, Beachwood, Mentor on the east side.
Lakewood on the west side
Also if your in Twinsburg your not far away from Walsh Jesuit school if you want to go the private route

RE: Cleveland area?
Lot of good advice in this thread. I could recommend every place mentioned so far in this thread except maybe Lakewood. Prices and taxes can vary greatly though so be sure to check that out as well. Is your work going to be around Twinsburgh, or downtown, or elsewhere?

RE: Cleveland area?
Solon (East) and Rocky River (West) were the 2 highest scoring districts on the State Report card.

RE: Cleveland area?
If your working in Twinsburg then Steetsborro, Kent, and Stow are cheaper options that are still solid casca20 wrote: Primarily around the Twinsburg area. --------------------------------------------- --- bill257 wrote:

Re: Cleveland area?
I live in Twinsburg - it's a nice town. You mentioned schools are important, so I'm assuming that's your top priority. What else is important to you? If it's strictly the school system (and you're looking to stick with public schools) Chagrin Falls, Orange and a few other local school systems are some of the top public schools in the nation. Twinsburg has a good school system (they've scored "Excellent w/ Distinction" on the last several Ohio Report Cards), but there are a few other school systems in the area that are at an elite level. Of course, property values, tax dollars, etc. in those areas reflect this fact.
If you give us a list prioritizing what you're looking for, we could probably steer you in the best direction(s). What you'll find from most Clevelanders/NE Ohioans is that we're either "East-siders" or "West-siders". Both sides offer great communities, but once you live here for a little bit, you'll realize which side you prefer.

Re: Cleveland area?
I am a West Sider who works on the East Side. Biggest difference? Too many damn traffic circles on the East side! piddylolo wrote: I live in Twinsburg - it's a nice town. Re: Cleveland area?
My wife is from strongsville it is a great area. Metro parks are right there with plenty of other attractions like shopping. I always hated to have to drive 40 minutes to get to a movie theater or go to the mall or if you need to get something for work. It's right on 71 so easy to get around. They seem to have a great school system from what she tells me. And they don't get the lake effect snow as bad as the east side.

I guess my list would be..
Safe area for the family Good schools Parks and other rec areas (golf, bike trails etc) Would like an area that historically has held its property value Within roughly 30 mins of downtown Not near the bar or college scene.

Re: Cleveland area?
I only lived on the east side for a few months, but much prefer the west side, where I have lived for several years.
On the west side I'd take a look at Bay Village, Westlake, and Rocky River (and potentially Avon Lake, which is in Lorain County and slightly further west).

Re: Cleveland area?
I just moved back to Avon (not Avon Lake) about 18 month ago and am very happy here. Granted, I did grow up here and am a little biased. A few things to consider that I like about Avon. First, you'll usually get less snow on the West side in general compared to the East side due to the snow belt. Second, Avon is in Lorain County, so it's less expensive than Cuyahoga County and you'll get more house for your money. Third, Avon has an EXCELLENT school system. As you stated, you wanted to be within 30 minutes of Cleveland, and you'll definitely have that in Avon. There are now 3 interchanges off I-90 in Avon, which makes it even easier to get on/off the highway. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Good luck!

To follow up on the post I just made, your list is very similar to mine when I moved to Cleveland. I live in Bay Village. Bay has held its property values well, has great schools, is on Lake Erie, has some bike trails, is anywhere from 15-30 minutes from downtown depending on traffic, and is definitely not by any college or bar scene (like most of the further west side areas such as Westlake and Rocky River). Not a big golfer, but there are several courses that really run the spectrum on quality, which I've enjoyed since I'm not good enough to warrant dropping significant cash on the fancy courses. One thing to note, however, is that Bay is an entrenched community with very few new-build homes. That didn't bother us as the quality of the older ones really outclasses, in general, most new builds, but it might be important to some people.
