Bear was maybe the most important figure in SEC desegregating.
Brought USC with their Black athletes to Birmingham and take a loss in '70 (42-17) to show Alabamans and rest of Dixie. This is false, and has turned into an Urban Myth. Alabama already had a young Black Man, Wilbur Jackson, in the stands that day as a member of the UA Football team as a Freshman. USC was just better tahn we were - but Bama went West and paid them back in 1971. You want to hear about racism and stereotyping?? USC had players on the sideline WITH GUNS because they were worried the backwards rednecks might come after them

Re: Your Mount Rushmore of College Coaches?
Man, it's hard to pick just four, but here goes (in no particular order since all four would be on the big rock):
Rockne Hayes Bryant Wilkerson
I'd have to give thought to Leahy, Parseghian (hey, it's a cool name), Eddie Robinson and a number of others.

I like the other 4 better. Brady Hoke could have won at USC with all that NFL talent. I really like Petersen. I think he is a great coach.

Re: Your Mount Rushmore of College Coaches?
I don't know how you limit it to 4. I also don't know how you put in Rockne and Leahy and leave out Yost. Here is my 10 in order:
Bryant Stagg Wilkinson Rockne (sorry Yost and Leahy, but the icon wins) Woody Hayes Howard Jones Yost Warner Leahy Neyland

Fielding Yost? Hell no. The powers of his time were Yale, Harvard, & Princeton, and Yost ducked them all. UM played those schools before Yost arrived, and always lost, so Yost took them off the schedule. It was cowardly. I would put Larry Kehres up well before Fielding Yost.

Bear Bryant, Nick Saban, Frank Leahy... the fourth and final one would come from either Bobby Bowden, John McKay, Bud Wilkinson, Tom Osborne, or Woody Hayes. A gun to my head, I would probably pick Bowden.

Walter Camp needs to be on the list. What about John Heisman?
