Re: Bama's dynasty *given* to them?

I can agree, even if they win or lose this next game, their at the top of the game in CFB and will continue going forward as long as they get good QBs. . If they can win the 3rd NC thats as about as good as any team can do. Id mention the LSU program as well. Last year they had a chance to win a 3rd NC in a decade. Right now Bama, UF and LSU all have 2 NC in the last 10-11 yrs and Bama has a chance to separate itself from those teams in terms of titles. Next year, maybe UF might be knocking on that same NC door trying to go for 3 within a ten year span. So theyre not done either in this race of NCs

I think we are pretty dominate, myself, for this era of college football, it's pretty impressive what saban has done... Just look at UF and Meyer. They won a title in 06 & 08 and were going for back to back titles in 09 with almost the whole team coming back from his 08 title team,  the whole two deep on D. It ran up against the 09 bama team and lost and bama is trying to do the same exact thing..  I would say meyer's UF program was dominate until it was not, much like bama will be. Bama is dominate until they are not, if they beat the Domers, three out four in  dominate, how could it not be... Just think if this bama team had the whole two deep on D, come back like the 09 gator team did, the domers would not have a chance.. JMO

Bring on Bama next year and let's see what happens. I am not going to predict that we will win, but I am also not going to say that they will beat us with no problems. Urban will get us to at least the Bama level of play.

Agreed. I think dynasties are going to even harder to come by when the playoff starts. If bama wins on Jan. 7th it may be the last dynasty we see in a long time. ------------------------------------------

I suspect that when we do get four teams, there are going to be far more surprises than most people expect.
Some, but not far more. The strongest teams are hard to beat.

Well, a year or two ago someone applied the CFB formula to the NFL playoffs, and the results were hilariously wrong.

What happens if USC gets into the playoffs in 2003 and 2008? And that's just a couple examples.

The surprises will come. And there will be more than people expect. There always are.

I don't see either UGA or AU winning - OSU 02 & USC 04 were not going to lose, along with some others teams (I realize I'm kind of arguing against myself here by saying certain teams were definitely going to win, but some years are like that).

LSU in 06, OTOH, may have been a surprise.

As far as the NFL example goes, the point remains the same- favorites often lose.

I hadn't thought of that, but that's an interesting point.

Assuming that Alabama, USC or anybody else will automatically win a four-team playoff is preposterous.

Upsets do happen from time to time, including too many major bowl games to count over the past 50 years.

Or look at he end of the season when we have 4 10-0 teams and you think no way will they lose and 3/4 end up losing some unsuspected game

Well I will say, if we lose we are still  very good but we will not be in that very elite status if we had won had won our third bcs title... If we lose I will be upset but I can Deal with it... The college football world shoud thank god, everyday, everyday, Saban left LSU, I think LSU would be working on their fifth or sixth bcs title if he had never left LSU,

Look, I have to be honest, while I hate the SEC, Alabama has earned every one of those championships.

Seriously, haters get no respect from anyone. You can reason about it all day -- but it still sounds like hating.

How about elevating your writing skills to fifth-grade level so we can understand what the hell you are saying.

I think we all agree on that. That is why people say it was a gift, because they didn't even have to play that 14th game. Seems like you agree with his point that it was a gift.

What on Earth makes you think OSU is going to even get to the title game let alone beat an SEC team in it should they back in there?

Hey, I brought that point ("arguing against myself") up myself! So give me a little credit wink

I actually am being consistent, though. I'm not saying every year there would be surprises, just many more over time than people think. Looking back, some teams were going to win no matter what. But I'd guess a third, even up to half the BCS NC winners, could have been different with four teams in the mix instead of two.

And going forward, when we do get to four teams, it's going to start to get verrrry interesting... which, IMHO, will be very good for CFB.

Agreed, haters deserve every ounce of **** that gets shoved down their throat and up their ass, when the team they hate wins. I respect any fan that supports their team, but haters, no respect at all.

I got one thing to say to the haters about ND, don't underestimate them. Don't bet the balance of your 401K against them. You may end up sleeping on a park bench. I said that back in 2007 when they were 3-9. At the start of the season the AP poll didn't even have them in the top 25, now look where they are.

Regardless of what the haters think, I am just glad that Alabama is in the dynasty discussion. It could be worse, for sure. Some programs, like OSU, have only 1 title in the last ~40 years (speaking of luck...)

Re: Bama's dynasty *given* to them?

It almost defies reason that OSU only has the 2002 National Title since 1970. Some of the best OSU teams in that timespan didn't close the deal on too many occasions. The 1995, 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2010 teams would have been fun to watch in a playoff format.

I'm still stinging from SC's Rose Bowl win over Earle in his first season. Another title down the drain.

I have no idea how Woody didn't win one in the 70's with the ridiculous talent he had on display.

Re: Bama's dynasty *given* to them?

And anyone who disparages the OSU 2002 title is a complete moron. They ran a gauntlet that year and came out with 14 wins. Big Ten was 5-2 in bowl games while playing in 2 BCS bowl games (OSU and Iowa). OSU beat 2 top 5 teams in Pac10 champ Wash St and Da U.

One of the best defenses we've had and we've had some great ones.
