Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
I think the Shoe is big enough right now. The Shoe is to College Football what the Coliseum was to the Romans during the Gladiator era. It is large and beautiful. Ohio State could put more money into expanding their other football facilities - WHAC, etc... as well as money for athletes - academics / recreation. marlew45 wrote: sometimes bigger is BETTER,thoughts anyone,GO BUCKS??Mich can always say they have a BIGGER stage to play home games.

Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
Ohio State at 105,000 is already bigger than 99% of other 1A stadiums, BUT that isn't translating into recruits choosing Ohio State over Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Texas, etc... most of whom have smaller stadiums. marlew45 wrote: buckeyemark wrote: I think the Shoe is big enough right now. You answer your own question. We have better, arguably the best. Even bigger is unnecessary.

RE: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
What needs to change is the times the games are played
Sorry the noon games do not lend themselves to a roudy game day atmosphere
With 105,000 people at every game we should be able to create a true home field advantage

Once we win another championship they will come. buckeyemark wrote: Ohio State at 105,000 is already bigger than 99% of other 1A stadiums, BUT that isn't translating into recruits choosing Ohio State over Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Texas, etc... most of whom have smaller stadiums. marlew45 wrote: buckeyemark wrote: I think the Shoe is big enough right now. Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
How many more seats can be added without a major re-construction? I think it's fine the way it is. I agree that the start times could be better. More 3:30 games would be good. It's hard to get people up at Noon to watch them play EMU or Illinois.
Day tok er jerbs.

marlew45 wrote: sometimes bigger is BETTER,thoughts anyone,GO BUCKS??Mich can always say they have a BIGGER stage to play home games. So you think we should make the seats smaller to compete with Michigan?

marlew45 wrote: sometimes bigger is BETTER,thoughts anyone,GO BUCKS??Mich can always say they have a BIGGER stage to play home games. No kid is going to choose one school over another becuase of a few thousands seats. If tOSU was significantly smaller than normal I would agree but they already have one of the biggest stadiums in the country so adding a few thousand seats will not gain a single recruit. Also, as you implied with the "arms race" title, if you did expand, it's only a matter of time before UM adds more to get back on top.

Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
everything I've heard about the stadium up north is that it's a basically a open landfill that gets filled a little on saturdays in the fall. If it's dug into the ground that deep, they could probably expand to 200,000. I doubt we could win a battle to build the biggest stadium possible while maintaining the aesthetic beauty of the Shoe

RE: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
For anyone who has watched a game in Ann Arbor and the Horseshoe you would know that Ohio State has a larger stadium. I went up to THE Game last year, Im 6'3 185 and I was technically sitting in 2 seats. The seat numbers are literally separated by about a foot. Keep in mind also, if we had a closed stadium we could probably hold about 110,000

RE: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
PS, Out of all of the big games I have been to in the last 8 years (Texas,USC,Michigan,Penn State,Wisconsin) The Outhouse was the quietest game I have been to. I was sitting in the corner end zone on the side of the tunnel and throughout the game I could hear OSU fans doing the "O-H I-O" chants from all the way on the other side of the stadium

Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
There would be NO problem at all if tOSU wanted to seat more at the horseshoe than they do at the OUTHOUSE............Just a little paint to make 8 inch seats to fit 12 inch asses. It works at AA. Not a real problem for area scUM fans because they are mostly asses anyway.

Re: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
We could easily go over 210,000 if we put a private box section on the east side of the stadium to mirror the press box/private box section in C deck on the west side. I know it would take out the top row of C deck in that area but I believe they could seat a ton in the private boxes depending on how they construct them.

RE: CFB ARMS RACE,do we expand the shoe???
Attendance is declining across sports. Not sure I see bigger stadiums. OSU just had an undefeated season and many of the games tickets were dirt cheap.
