Another rule change to think about
The ball stays alive as long as it stays in bounds, including forward pass. If a forward pass is not completed, it is live and belongs to whoever picks it up. If it goes out of bounds, it returns to the previous spot.

On a punt, it is live once it hits the ground.

RE: Another rule change to think about
Funny stuff.
Bills QB fitzpatrick turned backwards and threw the pass, making it incomplete even though he was throwing in the opposite direction as long as the QB is touched.
This is actually an incredibly useful rule that QBs should take advantage of more.

I don't think it would mean the end of the forward pass, I think some teams would throw more. Another dumb rule change thread, great. So you don't have to catch the pass in order to advance the ball? We will just get the fastest guy, throw it way over everybodys head, and let him out run the defense to the ball, without actually having to catch it, and gain big yardage that way. Great, any more stupid ideas?

Re: Another rule change to think about
I could think of other ideas, but keeping the ball live while inbounds isn't "stupid" in my opinion. --------------------------------------------- --- WJSilverBullet wrote: djtidebuck wrote:

Re: Another rule change to think about
This thread can't be serious...can it ? As this post says...just wing it deep downfield 20 yds past the WR and if he recovers it that's equivalent to a reception ? I don't believe it... WJSilverBullet wrote:

RE: Another rule change to think about
Totally serious, sort of. Most sports the ball remains live while in inbounds. It would be a radical change, but fun to watch.

RE: Another rule change to think about
It would be chaotic and totally change the game. For crying why even have a RB and run the ball ! On offense...have 5 WR on one side of the ball...send them 50 yds down field and wing it. Is there a link for this ? djtidebuck wrote: Totally serious, sort of. Most sports the ball remains live while in inbounds. It would be a radical change, but fun to watch.

RE: Another rule change to think about
well, you wouldn't have to worry about whether a player got his hands under the ball at least.....save lots of time on instant replay

Re: Another rule change to think about
Clearly you don't think it's stupid since you're the one who came up with the idea. I think you've been hitting the 'nog a bit early though. This rule would completely change the sport overnight into something unrecognizable. It would be a completely different sport. The punt would be gone, less long field goal attempts, overages would become worthless, and a host of other changes would take place to change it into another sport entirely. Most possessions would probably end with a Hail Mary attempt for example. djtidebuck wrote: I could think of other ideas, but keeping the ball live while inbounds isn't "stupid" in my opinion. --------------------------------------------- --- WJSilverBullet wrote:

RE: Another rule change to think about
Here's a rule change we might want to consider first:
Allowing a player to slip & fall untouched and then get back up and run.
That or have the end zones be underground tanks filled with sharks that have laser beams strapped to their heads.
That would be cool.

I agree a player not down by contact, should be able to get up and run

Re: Another rule change to think about
You should be able to run out of bounds, into the stands, grab a hotdog and a beer and still come back in and catch the ball.

If the beer spills during the catch, is it still a catch?
