Re: Duron Carter has dropped out of FAU

There are NFL players now with NFL dads whom are commeded for their work ethic.

Personally I don't know Cris or Duron, and unless you do, its hard to speculate about his upbringing. At this point, like folks on the board like to say, he is an adult. A young adult, but an adult nonetheless. The majority of fans on this board don't like kid label on student athletes, so how Cris impacts the situation isn't that relevant.

Not too much different than Victor Cruz...except Duron came out of HS with supposedly tons more talent.  If he can play, he'll be in the NFL.

You mean like Clarett?

Failing at three colleges (including for former NFL coach Saban) isn't going to give NFL GMs any pause - nooooo.

The Saban piece of your comment is a bit of a reach. Nick is not well respected in NFL circles

Apparently, he couldn't play.  he got his shot though didn't he?  So yes, you are exactly correct...just like Clarett.

Clarett got drafted in the 3rd Round, despite being out of football for 2 years and having a terrible workout.  He got his shot at the NFL.  Now he blew that shot once he got to training camp, but he still got the shot.

He is by Belichick.

And others don't seem to hesitate to draft his players.

Clarett actually played CFB.

"Getting a shot" isn't the same as playing in the NFL.

Point is Carter won't make The League for same reason Clarett didn't - character "issues."

To be honest, during his 1 season at tOSU, I didn't see any great flashes of talent that led me to think he was definitely NFL material.

There's a certain kind of reassuring white rock....and some people do well with that.....

Clarett didn't make the NFL because of a talent issue, not character.  He got his shot despite his character issues.    I seem to remember Duron playing CFB too.

Was hoping he could turn it around, have one good year at my alma mater and then get a shot in the NFL.  Too bad he is too lazy to use his God given gifts.

RE: Duron Carter has dropped out of FAU

Why are people talking like he could get a tryout fir an NFL team. NFL teams dont just take anyone off the street for tryouts. They have limited spots, even for tryouts. Usually an agent gets involved or the player of interest knows they will be at camp even before the draft is over. Lets see, duron had what 11 or so catches at OSU, dropped a couple more passes, has limited athleticism, and runs about a 4.8 forty IF that. iIRC he was very slow at OSU when he was here. He is also not as good of a blocker as a TE so gaining weight wont help him. He is not getting drafted as a WR, so what position is he going to play in the NFL exactly????

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan

What other college takes a chance on this kid ? If he likes football, Canada is his best option.

All I can say is there are about a million kids out there (at least) who are working their butts off to get into a college, any college for a chance out of whatever situation they are in that is pretty bad, so bad many of us have no clue what they are going through. Many of them, dare I say look a like Duran Carter. He doesn't understand how lucky he has it, or maybe he does and doesn't know how to handle it.

In any event, young folks are growing up in war zones, urban and rural war zones, this kid hits the jack pot in life and screw up, not once, not twice, but three times.

Three strikes and you are out my friend.

Best of luck, my advice ? Check the attitude, humble yourself, look around at the world and grow up.

Whoa, dial it back, Frances - you'll pull a hammy jumping to conclusions.

Where in there does it say Duran Carter is a bad kid?

RE: Duron Carter has dropped out of FAU

Have you ever heard of the term undrafted free agent? This really isn't that hard of a concept. Some people believe Duron will be with a team to start camp. Dane, Anderson Russel, Alex Boone, Braden Saine, and Jake Ballard all went this route. Camp is a try out as everyone is trying to make the team.

What am I missing here?

Comparing a guy that had 149 receptions in college, so actually showed he could play, to a guy that has 13 receptions?

Other then the fact Cruz went undrafted. Is that why they are the same?

Re: Duron Carter has dropped out of FAU

Victor got kicked out of umass for grades...twice.. AFTER going to a prep school just to get in... umass mind you, not a BCS or even MAC level school.  So what you are missing is coming out of HS, Duron had a much greater upside.   They are similar in that they both were very lazy at times.  Victor sucked it up on his 3rd, maybe 4th strike and made the best of it...as an undrafted free agent.  I suspect Duron will get a shot to make a team.

Ok Hoop, then explain what you meant when you wrote:
"Good parents do have bad kids sometime (cq) And kids with bad parents do turn out good sometimes, too." in a thread about Duron Carter dropping out of FAU.
