Re: Saban to announce jump to NFL after BCS title game

WizWiz, Just curious why Alabama and other SEC teams do not come up North during the cold weather times of the year to play and also need a neutral site.
I would love to see the come in Columbus in November or in Happy Valley, at Michigan or Michigan Stat,Wisconsin etc. Not any indoor sites like Minnesota.
I am quite sure the games would be different. At least Southern Cal came here and had a home in home with us same with Texas.

Re: Saban to announce jump to NFL after BCS title game

bexley miami played at ohio st on sept 11th.
usc played there on sept 12th
texas played there on sept 5th.

the LAST time ohio state played an out of conference game in november  they lost 27-0 at home to penn state in 1964.

with the fact they havent played an ooc game in november in almost FIFTY years the solution is simple.

ohio state should join the sec and then they would be able to pound us cold weather cowards every year in november in columbus.

thats the ONLY way to make your dreams come true--ohio state cant play an ooc game in november so they HAVE to join the sec....if ohio state doesnt join the sec to be able to make us go up there in november that PROVES they are afraid of usrolleyesrolleyes.

not trying to single you out but its amazing how many fans on here dont even know their own conferences schedule.disbelief

tpsdave, Depends, If you want to make changes to where you live and make the city you live in take the city council job. I would find this more rewarding no matter where you live.
If you want your life to revolve around money, fame etc. go ahead and stay in sports.
It all depends about your perspective. Very few of us are in position to do the latter so we live vicariously through other sports personalities be they play, coaches or even general mangers. on a personal matter there is a scripture in :
Joshua 24:15 that says:
But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

All of us have this opportunity.

Gee bexley, you are the first person who EVER came up with this brilliant plan!

And it's so DO-ABLE too! Just get the Big 10 and SEC (for instance) to interrupt their conference schedules so that they can contest this particular type of game. The SEC potential opponents would line up to do it so people like YOU could be satisfied.

But given that even in Ann Arbor or Columbus is isn't always cold in November, would we just wait and have the game when it was cold enough to be sure all the southern players just wanted to huddle over by the heaters and refuse to go on the field?

And yet, they were completely absent (except for TideFaninFl) while OSU was consistently in the running for NCs and Alabama was not a factor on the national level...

I wonder if Carrol's recent success with the Seahawks entices Saban even more to make the jump.

A Walmart store as the epicenter of excitement, and shanty dirt floors and trailor courts abounding close by is not exactly utopia.  Your sister is your cousin in most cases.
I will take the lakes of Cleveland and the islands around there, with water ways up thru the upper pennisula of Traverse City for summer boating and fun any day of the week.
Cleveland actually has electricity and running water, and they have dentists that can fix people's teeth.

If Dallas does not make the play off's, bye bye Garrett.
Norv Turner is getting canned in San Diego.  San Diego is nicer than trailor park Tuscaloosa.
The New York Jets could be in the market for a coach, and a lot of coaches really aspire for the shot in the Big Apple.
Oh, I forgot living in Tuscaloosa is better than the Big Apple New York, San Diego or even the Dallas Fort Worth area, how silly to even consider those NFL markets.

Well, roasting marshmallows over a roaring fire that is the rivers in Ohio is too enticing....

cool

Every stereotypical viewpoint of the south. This post tells me you have never been to Tuscaloosa, or anywhere near it.

My friend, Sept is hardly cold weather. Yes you are correct Miami did come here to their credit, I think if you read my post I said SEC teams. Miami as you may or may not know is NOT in the SEC.

Re: Saban to announce jump to NFL after BCS title game

bexley that was my point.

NO team is going to play a big team up there in the cold weather because of the big tens scheduling.

you play your ooc in spetember then play your conference games.

for whatever reasons the big ten has concentrated on the pac mainly for ooc games.

because of history and geography the sec has been tied in to the acc on the eastern side and the old swc/now big 12 on the western side with ole miss, miss st and lsu.

i dont think ohio state is scared to play sec teams and im pretty sure sec teams would love a chance to play in the shoe. sec teams have played home and homes with usc, texas and miami to. also notre dame, penn st, oklahoma, ect.

with all the bowl ties ins and recent bama-penn state, vanderbilt-northwestern, this years bama-michigan game ect maybe in the future we will see more in season games.

Let bexley continue to live in his fantasy world. He obviously doesn't realize that his "pots of gold and unicorns" scenarios have only been discussed a million times, because he brings them out like they're novel ideas.

Re: Saban to announce jump to NFL after BCS title game

Ditto

Saban has been to the NFL ( not a HC) and I think he's made it clear that he loves the college level far more.

Coach Saban might go, but I highly doubt it.  Quick, name me 10 past or present NFL coaches that are considered great.  I bet you could do it with college coaches.

If Coach Saban wants money, Alabama can pay him.  If Coach Saban wants to be higher profile, tell me, what do you hear about most, powerful college coaches, or powerful NFL coaches?  College coaches control states and regions, not so much NFL coaches.  For every Carroll there are two or three Spurriers, ones that tried the NFL and did not like it.  I would see O'Brien from PSU going before Coach Saban.

If he was younger, he might, but he is in his 60's.  To take over any other program, and rebuild (and face it, it would take longer to build an NFL team than a college team) takes time, and I do not think he wants to invest that much time anymore.

This really is a made up story, based in speculation, from a radio station in Cleveland...

truebuckeye99 wrote: Just a gut feeling that he will, but Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh have had success in the NFL and Nick Saban will have nothing left to prove in college and, given his age, his NFL window of opportunity may be shrinking. Given the right situation, I think he'll do it and be successful. A two year sample in Miami is hardly much of an indicator of whether he can coach in the NFL. The Dolphins underachieved his first year and faded late in his second year.

Pete Carroll's first two years in Seattle were nothing to write home about but he has a solid team now.

OSU cannot beat an SEC team in bowl games so they say it is because they do not play OSU when it's cold. Ha what an excuse!
