RE: Gary Anderson

a home run on the little league field

this is evidence that even some the football schools in our conference are willing to settle for less on the field and save money than spend and win.

I'm guessing your coach would disagree with your assessment of Andersen. I'm also guessing you had no idea who he was until Wisconsin hired him.

Let's talk this time next year.

People that are familiar with him as a coach disagree.

Fair enough. I dont know this guy very well. But that wont stop me from doubting entirely that he will continue the level of success UW has shown. If this guy takes his team to one rose bowl I will be surprised.

No I didnt know BB at all but he was hired from within. I will admit I expected less from BB than what UW got but its unfair to compare the two hires.

You're right, Petersen is much more proven than BB on the recruiting trail and coaching.

This is a funny thread.  My company just hired a new CFO. You seem to know him as well as you know Gary Andersen. Care to guess at the new CFO's chances of turning the company around?

Urban was coaching UF when Utah took down Bama. Whittington was the UU coach.

Urban led the defeat of Pitt

He was DC under Urban at Utah when they beat down Bama.
He took a dreadful USU team that had had only won a bowl game and been ranked one time in their entire history and he did both this last season.
He was voted top recruiter for non BCS schools in 2005 and has been in the top 10 pretty much every year.
Only losses this year were at BYU and Wisconsin in two games you could argue they should have won.
USU hadn't had a winning season since 1996, he had 2 in four years.
USU never won 10 or more games, he did that this season.
He has at least one coach on staff that recruits Samoans well which I think is awesome.
The DC and OC he is brining with turned down jobs at Cal and NC State that our assistants ended up taking which I thought was kinda of ironic.
Many if not most Texas fans had him at the top of their list to replace Mack.

Nobody knows how he will do but the national pundits and the majority of Badgers fans see it as a slam dunk hire.  I'm mean how many of you thought BB was an amazing coach anyways?

It's an interesting hire and probably a good one. He seems to have a good record and solid background showing upward movement. Maybe I'm also glad they didn't try and get one of OSU's current coaches!

K so he was the DC under Urban when they beat Pitt and under Whittingham.  I actually didn't know that.  I always thought Urban coached that game against Bama.

Urban had been in Gainesville for about three years when Utah took down Bama.

Re: Wisconsin's new coach is...

lucky he is bringing his coaches with him. The 6th badger assistant coach to leave this year just took a position at Cal.

...
"The latest to leave is linebackers coach Andy Buh, who Cal officially announced Wednesday is Sonny Dykes‘ new defensive coordinator.  Buh lasted less than a year with the Badgers."

...

"Buh joins Charlie PartridgeChris AshMatt CanadaZach Azzanni and Eddie Faulkner in the mass coaching exodus from Madison.  The former two joined Bielema’s staff at Arkansas while Canada was named North Carolina State’s offensive coordinator Saturday afternoon;  Azzanni was officially named as Tennessee’s wide receivers coach Sunday; and Faulkner was tabbed as NCSU’s tight ends/fullbacks coach Monday."

Make Wisconsin good. What do you suggest? Do you honestly think ANYONE would be able to bring in the top athletes from the South, Texas, and California to Madison? Wisky is not ND or tOSU-they need smart coaches who are scrappers.
