Re: Coaching Carousel

No ****....Pinkel fired. I think that is a huge mistake. He basically put the program on the map. Could be one of those fires that sets a program back.

Pinkel has not been fired.  Debate as to whether he is resigning, being kept, or fired.. but I have not seen or heard anything official

RE: Coaching Carousel

Thanks for this list - I agree on Pinkel. Almost half of the $EC is going to have a new head football coach. Add to that a rumor that Spurier is going to retire or quit at SCarolina and maybe the guy at Miss State is on his way out and the list could grow to 7.

Re: Coaching Carousel

Funny thing is, Pinkel made Missouri relevant agian and had some great recruiting classes for them.  Unfortunately his family issues and the team's move to the SEC (not what he wanted) mixed in with a loss of key players to make for a bad season.  Mizzou is not going to suddenly land a coach to make them immediately SEC relevance.

Now, if he retires to sort out his life, that's another thing, but for Mizzou to fire him might be a mistake.

I'd like to see former Buckeye coaches Mel Tucker(Jaguars DC) and Darrel Hazell(Kent State HC) get some looks in BCS conferences.

RE: Coaching Carousel

You would think Hazell would be a good fit for the Purdue gig with his Big 10 background and a number of Ohio ties.

I'd love to see Jeff Tedford and Darrell Hazell in the Big Ten!!!

Jeff Tedford to Purdue (the groomer of QBs) and
Darrell Hazell to Maryland with the Under Armor CEO's backing?

I don't think Edsall is going anywhere, at least not yet. They had a disappointing season, but also were decimated by injuries. They had 10 players lost to season ending injuries. Get this: FOUR quarterbacks, their leading rusher, and their leading tackler. Yikes.

Not that what you are saying is wrong, but I'm getting tired of Ohio ties in the Big 10.  There is a lot of talent in Ohio, but there isn't enough to feed an entire conference.

Purdue had success with a coach from Wyoming and a QB from Texas.

RE: Coaching Carousel

I get what you mean. I think he could have some success going after those plan B guys in and around the mid-west. Hope did a good job recruiting Florida the last few years, but I dunno if that kind of stuff carries over from staff to staff or if it's something the football program can kind of keep it's toe in the water with.

I'm guessing it depends on what assistants are retained.

I would just like to see a few more Big 10 teams learn the Moneyball lesson. Be different. If everyone focuses on Ohio, Ohio State and Michigan are going to dominate.

RE: Coaching Carousel

Again... We need to find room in the Big Ten for Jeff Tedford, Darrell Hazell (and I'll add another) and Gary Pinkel!!!

I liked the idea someone mentioned of Glenn Mason too... No idea if is up for it, but I think he could make a Big Ten team VERY happy!

That was a terrible hire from the start, especially moving into a new conference, but Colorado's AD said just Friday that he was going to give Embree one more year.  That's got to be a jarring weekend.

Colorado is one of the most interesting jobs out there.  Fantastic campus, fanbase that is largely apathetic at this point but really wants to back a winner, huge influx of new money from the Pac 12 and the state of Colorado produces some decent talent.  If CU is smart, they'll cash some of those big Pac 12 checks and spend them on a great coach.

Colorado isn't a great job. It's pretty isolated from its conference's recruiting grounds, and has no visibility in the closer area (Texas). There are a host of better jobs in the Pac 12 alone; OU, Washington, USC, UCLA, Stanford, ASU. It's probably equal to Arizona in desirability.

I never said it was a great job, just that it's an interesting job.  They have pieces to be great but have not been able to put it all together since the 90s really.

RE: Coaching Carousel

My thought is that the San Jose St coach goes to Cal or Colorado. Option #2 for Cal would be to poach a OC from one of the other Pac 12 schools.
