Braves open "2nd half" w/ 11 at home

Braves open "2nd half" w/ 11 at home

3 vs. PHI, 4 vs. MIA, and then 4 vs. SD (weekend wrap-around series w/ a Monday noon game)

Santana vs. AJ Burnett tonight.  The rest of the probable pitchers for the Braves aren't online yet, but I think I read Teheran is going Saturday night vs. Hamels.  Gattis started his rehab assignment yesterday.  If all goes well, he could be back early next week.

The next couple of weeks will be interesting both in terms of on-field results and potential trades made.  I don't expect any major moves to be made by the Braves, but I'd be surprised if a left-handed reliever isn't acquired.  There have been multiple reports of interest in Boston's Andrew Miller, who has a 2.23 ERA and 0.991 WHIP in 43 appearances and is striking out 14.4 hitters per 9 innings.  Some of you may recall Miller as a starter for the Marlins several years ago.  He struggled mightily as a starting pitcher going 20-27 w/ a 5.70 ERA but has put up far better numbers since moving to a relief role, w/ ERAs of 3.35 and 2.64 in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

A pitcher of Miller's caliber would certainly be a welcome addition to the Braves bullpen as Avilan has been awful as our only lefty reliever and has shown no signs of figuring things out.

Haven't seen any reports.  Bowman is pretty good at getting the scoop on these sort of things.  I would think that we probably won't hear anything until somewhere between 4-6.  For those who like to read between the lines, Gosselin was not in the Gwenette line up yesterday.

You and my father are in agreement on the need for another left handed reliever.  There hasn't been any updates on Jonny Ventures in the past month or so.  I'm starting to think that he won't be back this year.

Personally, I still think they need bench help.  We will see what happens.

This is honestly the hardest Braves team to watch for me that I can remember. So inconsistent and low scoring baseball is just painful to watch.

When are we gonna get a 50 game season?

Geeze, the spell checker got that.  I actually spelled it correctly when I originally typed it.  Gwinette.

I'll admit mistyping that one.

yep.  It's mentioned as a rumor on MLB.com now.  Everyone seems to be quoting Ken Rosenthal.

Gosellin has to remain down for 10 days. I wonder if they will be bold and promote Paneta?

Not sure if you are doing a techno or being serious.  I don't think they ever sent him back down.  He wasn't in the game yesterday.
