So I just watched the first 6 minutes of soccer in my life...

So I just watched the first 6 minutes of soccer in my life...

I click on ESPN.com and see the US is 1 minute away from beating Portugal.  Really?  Hmm...maybe I'll turn on the TV and watch this win.

89:00 minutes...89:30...89:59...wait for it!  Uh..what?  5 more minutes?  Well that's odd.

No worries, I'll watch 5 minutes of soccer and then see the US win.

94:30...wait for it...OOOPS!

Soccer.  LOL.

I get that you are trolling the soccer fans, but that was one of the best, if not the best, World Cup game ever played by the US. The final goal was a heartbreaker, but this team has made so much progress and is still favored to make it to the knockout stage. There were times that giving up the first goal in the first 5 minutes would have been the end of it, but not with this team.

Too bad you missed the preceding 89 minutes - they were fantastic.

I'll take the bait. As painful as it was for the US, that tie game was thrilling and much more enjoyable to watch than our football team (Tech football, that is) the last couple of years.

Give ivery40 some credit on the trolling.  He's been a soccer troll for as long as I can remember, but he's held off on joining in on the main World Cup thread.  He's making progress, but he saw an opening with this thread and couldn't resist.

I just hope that he and Technodude don't get together one night and make babies.  The trolls created from that combo would be too much.

Wow...I know US Soccer fans are required, by law, to try to convince every non-soccer fan to watch soccer but you guys are a wee bit defensive.

The point is that in watching my only 6 minutes of soccer, I watched the US blow a win that, in any other sport that uses a clock, wouldn't have even been possible. It's similar to when I watch/listen to a grand total of 120 seconds of UGA football (excepting our game) and they score within 10 seconds of me turning it on...every time.

Forget those dudes. What you saw is "soccer". Anything is possible. Manchester City won a league title 2 years ago on a more improbable finish. Pick a side and you'll soon see why fans shoot roman candles at each other.

The bottom line is soccer is just for chicks. The game is boring. I can't watch more than couple of minutes of this nonsense. American football>>>>>>>>>chickball

I guess cheating the fans out of 5 minutes of action they paid for is the American way?

Why can they stop the clock for "injury stoppages" like every other sport in the world.  Arbitrarily adding X minutes at the end is so random.

I just wish we could have landed one of the 9 or 10 shots on goal in the first half. A few seemed like great opportunities.

Re: So I just watched the first 6 minutes of soccer in my

I told my wife I wanted to try and watch the US vs Portugal last night, but she wanted to go get something to eat. So I was keeping track of it on my phone and noticed the 1-0 pretty quickly. But, by the time we got home and flipped it over the US was up 2-1!!!! There was only a few minutes left even expecting stoppage time. Then Ronaldo launched that ball in front of the goal and I was yelling at the TV "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .........................     Dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!! I jynxed them by turning it on. @#$%." Anyway, apparently I wasn't the only one tuning in super late to jynx them.

I don't know anything about soccer but it's the US, gotta pull for the good guys. I get sucked in and cheer for our Curling team in the Olympics. I did think on that last goal that whomever the guys in the back are got sucked too far downfield (especially when D is your main concern at that point?) and then Howard I thought normally would have come out and caught or punched that ball away. It was just awful, like watching a car wreck. I knew when Ronaldo starting lining up the cross it wasn't good. But, a tie is probably better than expected anyway, just hated it for them.

OK, so you started this thread..... So I guess we could claim that every non-soccer fan is required to try and convince people just how cool they are by complaining about soccer.

Honestly, guys who say crap and post crap like you did remind me of the little guy who.. all through school got his books knocked out of his hands in the hallway. Now, he finally gets a chance to "act cool"  and "act tough" and he just can't wait. He's just hoping that some big "cool" guy will come along and laugh with him.

You don't like it? Fine, don't watch. There's probably plenty of people who don't like Tennis, or Golf, or Baseball. You don't see them coming in here and trying to show how cool they are by bad-mouthing those sports.

"Think about how dumb the average guy is.... Then think about the fact that half of the people are dumber than that......

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

Ship, take it easy. We are not trying to act cool, at least not me. In fact, looking at how quickly soccer is becoming popular in the States is the reason why I feel the need to vent my feeling of isolation, and being not able to participate in a meaningful way in the soccer discussion. I totally agree that it is immature, but I just can't resist the urge. ;)

Then figure out a way to enjoy it because it will get worse. You are a fan of the slowest two team sport yet call soccer boring. You also seem to imply that soccer is a replacement/substitute for football. Nobody is saying that. They are two different sports so enjoy them for what they are.

Now since we are crossing religion insults in this thread can we ban religious discussion a la politics?

That's what I find interesting about internet trolling.  Really, what is the satisfaction that is derived from posting something that serves no purpose other than getting a rise out of someone? Aren't you a college professor or something? I would expect it would take a lot more than something like that to keep yourself entertained.

Trolling every once in a while as a joke is understandable, but for people like Technodude, it's a full time job, and ivery40 has been trolling soccer fans for years now.  I think it's beyond immature, it's weird. noidea

If you can't appreciate that USA-Portugal game, something is wrong with you. Seriously, you're screwed up in the head.
