Mikell Lands-Davis

It's being reported on two other sites that early Thursday afternoon, Mikell Lands-Davis was booked and charged with a misdemeanor possession of marijuana in the Douglas County jail.

There are two types of high school students, those who get caught with drugs/alcohol and those lucky enough to not get caught. This is not a big story, but once caught, you have to be very careful not to get caught a second time.

I can assure you that there are many students who have never used marijuana, alcohol, or even tobacco.  In fact, there are some schools where probably less than 1/2 of the students have ever even smelled marijuana.

Folks that regret having ever used these things try to comfort themselves by saying that everyone has done it at one time or another.  Experimentation or use does not make you a bad person, but there are many who have been taught to avoid them and realize the importance of dong so.

Some kids are enrolled in the school where they attend due to their parents wanting to lift them out of the environment where they might be tempted.

I hope Mikell never uses again if he did this time.  I hope the story is wrong and he is innocent.

+1

He is a young high school kid. A lot more high school kids than people think are smoking weed these days. I was in high school just a few years ago and by college, I knew very few people that didn't smoke. I went to school at Auburn and in the year of 2009, I know that at least half of there football team was smoking. I have grew up over the past couple of years and have changed my ways, but I honestly still feel that it is not any different than drinking and def much safer. For those of you who have smoked, you understand exactly what I am talking about. For those of you who haven't, you will never understand.

I am rooting for this kid, and truly hope that this does not impact his career here at Tech. Everyone deserves another chance, I just hope he learns from his mistake's.

Not really accurate.
47% of teenages report ever having taken marijuana. 36% report taking it in the last 12 months. Less than 10% report taking it every day.

Only 39% see it as a dangerous drug, and that figure continues to drop - which is not good since it can lower your IQ and teens who take marijuana are 20 times more likely to use other drugs than those who don't.

Marijuana is also much different today than the marijuana used in the 60's and 70's for instance. It is actually 20-30 times more potent/

These kids who are being recruited and rewarded with scholarships have to be smart enough to know the consequences of their actions.

I also reject the "they're all doing it" argument.  That's no excuse, even if it were true.

Why? It's not like it wouldn't have come out at some point. The arrest was a public record.

I don't keep up with recruiting much these days, but what concerns me more than someone getting arrested for less than an ounce of weed is this line from that story:

"The 5-foot-10, 205-pound is rated as the state’s No. 53 overall prospect."

Is our top recruit really the 53rd best in our own state?

Sounds like we're finally recruiting some SEC-level talent!

Just remember all these comments the next time you make fun of UGA for the same exact thing.

I mean, seriously, this is the TOP story in the state right now? If so, we are doing pretty dang good as a society.

Re: Mikell Lands-Davis

I wonder if he'll get suspended from school or miss any games?

Some schools suspend students for 6 months if they have 2 drug related issues.
