CPJ on Finebaum

CPJ on Finebaum

Hello all - Longtime lurker here.  After listening to the end of the Finebaum interview CPJ on ESPN radio earlier (great interview by the way) was about to turn to another station when I was surprised to hear a couple people wanted to talk about GT. Thought maybe we’d get some decent publicity for the SEC homerdom that listens to his show – boy was I wrong – first caller was whining about our recent poor records and only success against lower level ACC teams (blah, blah, blah – whatever). What I found disappointing was the next caller (whether authentic or not) claiming to be the parent of a top recruit in the Southeast and her claims of how terrible our recruiting process was for her son who really showed interest in playing on the flats. Disappointing to hear real or not. If true - I know we can’t wow with a massive stadium, or certain amenities some of our competition can boast about – but the caller’s claims of apathy and insincerity makes us look unappealing to any recruit on national radio and if any of her babble is half true on the actual recruiting front we have some serious issues on-top of all extra hurdles we have to cross just to get a player that can help us win. Sorry for the rant, but this just struck me the wrong way this afternoon.

I call BS on our recruiting and insincerity.  Most likely a Ugay fan trying to slam CPJ and Tech.

Finebaum's show is designed to get callers riled up, and thus, call the show...as a likely result of our own apathy, nobody called to challenge that assertion.

Did Finebaum ask mom what her kid's grades were?
I'll bet we would know the disconnect if he did.

I've known folks whose kids played H.S. football. They all think their kid is a 'top recruit' and get their feelings hurt when they aren't shown the 'Love' they think their kid deserves.

But if he's making up what he said, the OP would get caught pretty quickly.  He was basically giving a report about a syndicated show.

Seems odd:
At Spring game I was in conversation with a group of about 5 recruits and their parents and families (Gold Section), One parents said if decision on what school to play for  were 100% up to the parents, 90% of the kids at that visit would be going to Tech, all the other parents agreed.

On side note, one of the kids in that group committed, one has committed to different school, others still waiting.

Ever read the comments section after the AJC has an article about GT football? Could have been a set up. This is not intended to come out wrong, but how many mamas know CPJ is going to be on the radio?

Re: CPJ on Finebaum

I call BS as well.  What a coincidence that the mother of a top recruit just happens to be holding to talk about Tech's recruiting after the coach does a segment.

Re: CPJ on Finebaum

That caller was followed by a former Navy player who loved Johnson and the father of 2015 commitment who also spoke highly of both Johnson and Tech. I thought overall it was pretty interesting and favorable press.

It is possible she was telling the truth or at least her perception of the truth.

I have an acquaintance who has a son who he claims had D1 skills but GT would not even give him a look. He now has a similar opinion of GT as the caller- even though when it was all said and done his kid didn't get a D1 or D2 (whatever its called these days) from ANY school.  The point is that parents sometimes exagerate their kid's capabilitieis, so this kid may not have been a top recruit.

Also as someone said, he may not have had the mentai capacity to get into GT.

For whatever the reason is, the fact is that GT (and all schools) have a limited amount of time and resources to dedicate to recruiting and they can't give the "royal treatment" to all recruits even those that want to come to GT.

Re: CPJ on Finebaum

There may be an excuse for not wanting to play in our offense if you believe NFL scouts cannot detect football talent but there is no excuse for recruiting top notch defensive talent providing they have the grades. We have a top coach in CTR who has the experience and record to draw 4 and 5 star recruits.   Time will tell.

He started this thread.  He is objective, telling what he heard.  We need more folks like that.
