Autry won’t be among Tech freshmen reporting

Hope this isn't another Custis-type situation.

Link help...  http://www.ajc.com/news/sports...eporting/ngMLz/

Coaches and school officials were confident that Autry, who picked Tech over Florida State, among many suitors, will do the necessary schoolwork to earn admission before the fall term.

This crap is getting old. We need to get the kids that we've signed,.....on the freaking campus. It shouldn't be this difficult. Autry could help us immediately.

Too bad, but it is hard to get an 18 year old to focus. You have to try. Autry and Custis could have been difference makers. Fingers crossed on Whitehead, this is really a position of need.

Don't know the details but what is going on with these kids not being able to start with the rest if the signees? Really could use his talents in returns at the very least, sure hope he and Whitehead make it here for Fall camp, sheesh

He's not enrolled yet... it's on him.

These guys have got to do the work in the classroom. You can really see what we're up against with the Custis, Autry, and JHD things.

Whitehead was always going to be an August arrival because that is when his class work is over at GMC.

Doesnt the article say that officials on both sides are...

CONFIDENT.....???   The way the article is written sounds like Autry won't be there, but why does Segura freak everybody out when both sides say we're on track to get Autry in school..??

Sorry, am I missing something?      eek

It looks like Autry has to finish up some summer coursework to be admitted.  He probably has some conditional acceptance, I wouldn't get too upset about any of this.

This isn't like Custis, since he failed to meet GT academic requirements after the spring semester.  Custis is likely done here forever.

I wonder about this,...what type of summer coursework? Did he have a committable offer in February? All indications point to that being the case,.....haven't heard a word to the contrary. If so, then he had the necessary test score and GPA. Is the hill jerking us around on our number of exceptions, or how CPJ applies the exception standard? Would not surprise me at all. Like I said,...this crap is getting real old.

Re: Autry won’t be among Tech freshmen reporting

I don't think the Hill is jerking anyone around. There are minimal requirements to gain entry into Tech. Autry still has one (some) to go, and he's trying to complete them this summer. How many kids at other schools that are NCAA compliant have to go through this? I never hear of any at the schools around here. Maybe I'm deaf to it, but I never hear it.

Re: Autry won’t be among Tech freshmen reporting

This is going to happen on occasion when you take academic exceptions.  It's a risk reward scenario.  I'm sure there are examples of where the risk was rewarded with good players managing to get in and stay in.  Sounds like Autry could still make it in but he will be one that will have to be nursed along, so it will most likely be year to year with him.

Go Jackets!

Note that Autry is our only 4 star recruit and Whitehead is our only JUCO recruit.  I sure wish them well.  We need them.

I think adding more majors will solve this.

The players have the responsibility to get their work done before they come to college.  Ga Tech just will not accept what other universities will accept from an academic standing.

I am am often shocked by the people who really believe GT's recruiting pool is as deep and as wide as the other schools in Div 1.

As it should be.  If these kids really want to play at home then they need to take care of the academics.  I'm all for putting the student before the athlete. Football lasts such a short time, a GT degree lasts a lifetime.
