sidewalk or alumni

sidewalk or alumni

Not sure how to do the vote thing but would like to get an idea of sidewalk fans vs. Alumni on the hive. Can some of you smart people create a thread that will track the two?

P.S. - Not a CS major.

Re: sidewalk or alumni

I am as diehard as they come. I have been posting on the hive since 1999 when I was 10. I have attended Auburn University, Sewanee univ of South, and the University of Georgia where I currently attend. I hate athens and uga very much and have been trying to get into Tech since I was 18 and graduated high school with honors. A 1900 SAT and 3.7 will not get you into Tech and apparently a 3.4 collegiate will get you into Georgia but Teh requires Calc 1 and Calc 2 to be completed. If I can complete Calc 2 I will enroll at Tech and graduate by 2018. That is he goal. So alumni to be!!!! I bleed old good and white. I fear God and Paul Johnson and every member of the Football roster.
Huge Paul Johnson and Gregory advocate. Extensions in 2015!

The THOMASBONE, 2014:
QB Justin Thomas Prattville, Alabama
B-Back Zach Laskey Peachtree City, Georgia
A-Back Tony Zenon Albany, Georgia
A-Back Barry Bostic Louisville, Georgia

Sidewalk or alumni fans both great and much appreciated

Have so many friends who are not grads or ever attended but love the Institute, the kids that represent it and everything it stands for.

Thank you all!!!!!!!!!

Not only did I attend GA Tech, I lettered three years with the Tech football program. Maybe that's why I'm so passionate about them.

Re: sidewalk or alumni

Started as a sidewalk fan as a kid. Bought season tickets with my work money and drove to FB games my last 2 years of HS once I got a drivers license. Got my BS and MS from the NATS. So I've experienced both but by your definition I'm an alum. I have deep respect for my fellow alums because I know as do they first hand just how hard Tech can be. I have equally deep respect for any Tech fans because I know how easy the alternative is to just root for the nad lickers or their like.

My ultimate favorite sidewalk fan is someone who not only roots for Tech athletics but who understands and cares about the mission of the school, respects to uphold our reputation we've collectively worked so hard to build for over 100 years, and they never want to lower standards for the sake of athletics. In fact, I probably have more respect and admiration of that group than anybody. Those are the folks I prefer to tailhook with and talk Tech with daily.

edit note:  my 1st year as a season ticket holder as a 16-year old we won 1 game the entire season and none at home...but, I loved every second of it and would do it again in a heartbeat if I could

Sidewalk- but definitely one of the most diehard. I've been going to games since my first GT game when I was two (VPI 2004). Obviously, I'm not an alumni, being that I am only 12, but there is a chance I will be, I don't know yet.

I barely got in with a 1300 out of 1600 and a 3.8 GPA. GT required me to go to their freshmen summer school as a trial out. If I get a 3.0 average, I get to continue on into the fall.

As an alumnus, IE 69, I truly appreciate sidewalk fans.  They don't support Tech because they are obligated to do so, but because they just like Tech.

You will be.  I have no doubts.

Neither of my 2 kids attended Tech.  One graduated from Tennessee.  The other is halfway through at James Madison.

Both still bleed gold and always will.  SWMBO and I brainwashed them well.  wink

* still the hardest accomplishment of my life

p.s.  all fans of Tech are appreciated and welcome, especially the young ones since there are easier schools to cheer for

Re: sidewalk or alumni

I guess you can call me both.  I attended Tech for two quarters before transferring to Kennesaw State.  I realized very early that I was never meant to be an engineer. By the time I realized what I wanted to do when I grew up, I was already entrenched at KSU, and just stayed there.  I did leave in good academic standing, so when my daughter gets into Tech in 11 years, I may pull a Thornton Melon and go "back to school". biggrin

People don't know this is one of the best "tricks" to get into Tech if you are "close". Tell them you want to start in the Summer instead of the Fall, and your chances of acceptance will grow much higher. Best of luck.

FSU ALum

Life long GT fan, FSU alum.  Had GT season tix as an FSU student.  Although I am much more balanced than I once was - I remember throwing many a set of headphones off the back of the east stands in frustration - I still remain loyal to Tech.  Now I have a wife and kids and while winning is great, what I love most is taking my family to campus once or twice a year and watching them cheer on the Jackets.  A dream come true.
