95 players on the Roster

How does this happen?  How can the SEC/NCAA rules get abused in such a way?

Why don't the coaches who try to treat student athletes the right way protest more to the NCAA?

It's not happening. Not all of those players qualified. They aren't over the 85 limit.

Grades...they aren't charged to the 85 scholarship limit until they are enrolled in school.

Nice little system they have going for them. The NCAA will turn a blind eye on this follie too. Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be best for 60 to 70 universities to just leave the NCAA and start something new and fresh. Then the NCAA would be reveiled as what they're really about, making money, and could start to be taxed.

It's still oversigning....

There's no way Saban knows how many of those guys won't qualify, or how many more of his existing players will flunk out, get in trouble with the law, or otherwise just "mysteriously" leave the program.  He's oversigning.

I understand that what he's doing is completely legal under the current NCAA system.  He takes full advantage of the rules.

Point is, the rule needs to change.  There are several ways to do it.  Simply saying those on scholarhip + LOIs can't go over 85 would be one way.  This oversigning stuff is all over twitter and the internet.  The NCAA though doesn't seem in any hurry to do anything about it.

They don't go over 25 per year and they don't go over 85. The chart shown in this thread doesn't show the early enrolees that are charged to the previous year.

The chart shows 25 for 2013, 24 for 2012, etc. It shows 95 players total, who at this point think they have a roster spot at the "university"

The 2013 class has not enrolled. When school starts they will not be over 85.

The rules aren't "getting abused". The rules are asinine and the NCAA is completely inept. Folks need to quite blaming the effect and look at the cause. Saban isn't breaking the rules. It's the rules that are broken.

+1

And the answer is not to add more dumb rules.

I can't argue with this logic either.

True. 10 SA's will be removed from the roster

BTW, others (including UVA) are over 85 at this moment:  Link

At some schools, I could easily see 4-5 players flunking out, and then 4-5 players not qualifying.  But you can't tell me that at Alabama of all places, that everyone on that football team wouldn't be on the honor roll if they just attended classes and did the bare minimum.

RE: 95 players on the Roster

They are just using all the scholarships that GT wastes annually. :)

They have to be at 85 in July (Summer Semester) not on signing day. Players leave, quit, transfer, flunk out, get hurt, etc. It's quite easy to estimate attrition (except for GT football). GT graduates hundreds of people capable of such a feat each semester.

Guys are there for football.  Many skip classes and just don't care.

We can't compete.

I know this has been discussed a lot, but it just made me realize again... why are we even discussing anything else, like depth charts, and QB competitions, and defensive coordinators, and such when none of it matters due to the way CFB is a rigged game.

Oversigning Index

We would probably be at the very bottom of this list. And, we should be because it's the right thing to do. It's a shame, and should be a crime, that programs are rewarded for doing wrong things. It would be so simple to fix. I'm not going to go into it because it's been said, everybody knows it already, and I'm just thoroughly disgusted and fed up. Some are going to agree, a few are going to say "we should be doing it too" and bla, bla, bla. But, whatever, the point is nothing else we discuss here matters because of this crap.

People are stupid (especially kids).

Edit:  Sorry, just saw the other post:  http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=140&f=2938& t=11304229

Re: 95 players on the Roster

I don't like Saban and I don't like the way he does business but unfortunately he does work within the rules, whatever they are. The NCAA could easily cut out oversigning if they cared to; they don't care to do that. They can simply decree that 25 means 25 (no exceptions, no putting them on last year, etc) and 85 is 85. If you sign 25 this year and you're still going to be below 85, too bad. Don't sign kids that won't qualify or are going to flunk out.
