Might Have Been Said Before, but Playing UGA

Might Have Been Said Before, but Playing UGA

Wouldn't it be better if we played UGA in the middle of the season and a ACC rival the last game.  I don't want to play them the first game of the season, but maybe fourth.  Think how exciting it might be to be playing the DA U on a Saturday night after Thanksgiving for the the right to go to the ACC Championship!

I'm very old school, still want to play UGA, but if we stay in the ACC we need to move it earlier.  The last gsame should be a conference game and mean something, no get us back to the SEC and all problems are solved.

I used to think it was important to play uGA every year. But frankly, now I don't care.

If we play them, fine.  If we don't it is ok too.

I would be in favor of playing UGA if the recruiting playing field were level.  When I see them bringing in "student" athletes from Hargrave and many JUCO's and know that we cannot recruit these kind of players, then I pretty much know our chances against them will never be very good.

Have never wanted to stop playing them, but have always wanted them earlier in the season. Agree with your entire post, with the exception of getting back in to the SEC. My GT fanhood dates to 1976, so I have never been a fan of, or even had the desire to follow, SEC football.

It might have been said a million times, maybe a million and one...

Re: Might Have Been Said Before, but Playing UGA

My first college game was GT-UGA.  I won't say how long ago, but the coaches were Bobby Dodd and Wally Butts.  However, I agree that it's time to change the date and play them in the first part of the season.

It also seems to me that we are in control of this.  If we insist on moving it, their only choice is to move it or not play us, and I'm sure they would not choose to not play us.

It's became one of the most lopsided rivalries. Why not play it earlier in the year or not at all. The playing field is not even close to being level anymore with the recruiting restrictions we have.

I've Been A DIEHARD GT Fan For 50 Years, If GT Mails It In On...

playing UGA, then I'll mail it in on GT. Don't give me any loyalty crap, I bleed gold and white. A great coach and recruiter can win anywhere because kids will come play for him, not the school. OH....but our curriculm is so hard!!! Well since times are changing maybe GT better keep up with the times. Keep the calculus for engineers as hard as you want it, but for non engineer athletes, let up on the difficulty. Remember, the college landscape is not 1952 anymore. OH....but we don't offer majors that interest these athletes!!! Most of these athletes don't give a tiny little rats @&& about majors, they want to play college football for a big name coach.

What difference does it make when we play them?????

I see no reason why we would fare any better against UGA regardless of where it falls during the season.

As long as Richt brings in NFL caliber QBs, then it will remain lopsided ... we can compete with the other positions ... I would like to see it as the second game of the season ...
We are in the great football desert. I will simply sip scotch until "Toe Meets Leather" on August 31st.

Get it over with early. Tends to put much more of a damper on the season coming at the end.

Moving it to the beginning deemphasizes the game just enough to help garner more fans, and as you say, allow us to play the end of the year without depression. Lose early and you get back at it one week later. Lose late and the ACCCG, bowl game and long offseason are negatively affected.

When the fans have a loser's mentality, you just know the player's do, too.  Very sad.

I'm just grateful they still let us play them.  They must hate the way it drags down their strength of schedule.

Gei UGAg and ALL OOC games played before the end of September. I would feel the same way even if we beat them every year.

After last years game, it is plain to see that both coaches and players are scared of UGA, so let's just bow out gracefully and add another 1-AA opponent.

And would make ESPN happy since they'd have an easy choice for the Labor Day match up allowing the ACC to get schedules out like other major conferences. It would also serve as incentive to stay focused and work hard in the offseason with the hated mutts at the start.

I used to think people who wanted to cancel the series were crazy, but I wouldn't mind if we stopped playing UGA.. It's not even a fun game anymore
