Re: Erickson starting game 1

as I suspected he would. We get to set the tone right away with EE on the hill in Game 1 and have Ewing go in Game 2 (Winner's Bracket vs UCF/Missouri State), and have Whaley in the clinching game on Sunday Night and then get ready for a likely trip to Baton Rouge next weekend vs LSU.

We're on the GOLDEN Road to a title!!

TitanCane and Canes0177 wrong again (and neither will admit it).

Baseball America is calling for a Stony Brook win and they don't even consider it an upset.

Waiting for TitanCane to admit he was wrong is like waiting for the cows to come home.
Fire Jim Morris.

I thought Ewing would throw game 1 and EE would throw game 2. Erickson even said he was told as much.

It was the right move to start EE in 1 and Ewing in 2.

Coach Morris knows our team and their team a lot better than I do. If he thinks starting EE in game 1 is the right decision, I'll take his word for it.

RE: Erickson starting game 1

I think Eric Erickson is WITHOUT QUESTION the right guy to go against Stony Brook. Jankowski as CCBL MVP & two of his teammates that were CCBL All Stars proved they could hit a typical Friday Night ACC flamethrower this past summer.

So did many of the ACC stars. But with rare exception, few have been able to figure out Erickson, and I would add the Stony Brook bats to that list. The last thing we could afford against SB is to give them extra outs or baserunners, and EE will do his part making sure that doesn't happen setting up batters better than any College Pitcher I have seen in a long time, walking virtually no one, and his big key to success is almost always retiring the first batter of an inning.

The last thing a host wants to do is fall into the Loser's Bracket on Day One especially a team that does not provide much offensive output. Without a doubt EE gives us the best chance of staying in the winners bracket going into the second day. He did not work this hard to make a sixth year a reality only to watch helplessly if Game one were to turn into some slugfest. He gives us the best chance - and I would say makes it very likely - that Whaley or Ewing will be getting the ball in the winner's bracket on Saturday
'Did you read THE SCARLET LETTER, Tim?' 'Yes ma'am, I sure did?' 'What was it about?' 'You know what is was about.' 'Yes, Tim. I do, but I don't think that you wrote this paper.' 'It was about a gal ... named Scarlet, of course!'

Wow I am surprised. Definitely like my Bears chances with Pierce Johnson versus Steven Ewing. This is a wide open Regional and Jim Morris is negating his big edge with Erickson. Surprising but good news for Missouri State and UCF.

Good luck. Are you making the trip?

I'm pretty sure Eric Whaley would be starting game 2, not Ewing.

Doesn't that depend on who we are playing and how many left handed batters they have?

You suspected he would, because you're new here. Everyone who thought EE would not pitch game 1, was guessing that Morris would do what he has done every year, for the past 14 years. That would be, NOT throw his Friday night guy against a 4 seed.
Not one person on here knew what Coach would do, but the educated people went with past history.

I suspected we would go with EE in Game 1 because IMO, doing that sets the tone for the rest of the regional for us. You make a statement loud and clear. You come back with Ewing on Saturday in the Winner's bracket, and Whaley in the clincher on Sunday. It makes sense that way.

I'm not new here, far from it.

If Missouri State faces Miami, Miami will want Ewing to go. Missouri State really struggles against left-handed pitching. Especially ones with good change ups.

Obviously we aren't good enough to take anybody lightly, but enough about Stony Brook already. They had a 279 SOS. They played one team in the RPI top 100 all year (East Carolina) and got swept. I'm unsold. They basically beat up on a bunch of cream puffs.
Fire Jim Morris.
