How long have the Beavers been wearing blue? I don't watch OS basketball so have not known if they have been using different colors than orange, black and white. I agree that they need another coach, but better for us that they keep Coach Robinson.

Most beaver fans I know want him gone. Five years is more than enough time to build a basketball program and he just hasn't got it done. Jay John whom most of us would agree is not a good coach at least got them to the NIT.

The blue uni's actually have something to do with Joe Burton's Native American heritage. Originally they wore them because it was Native American heritage month. This time I believe because it was Burton's last game at Gill. larrybrownsports.com/college-b...age-month/40260--------------------------------------------- --- SoCalDuck wrote: How long have the Beavers been wearing blue? Jay John also left Coach Rob an absolute dumpster fire. Jay left the program in MUCH worse shape than when he took over. I'm not trying to be the defender of Coach Rob as I think he's OK as a coach, but I think to compare him to Coach John is a tough sell. superduckdc wrote: Most beaver fans I know want him gone. It should be interesting if they decide to let him go. How would anyone here like to deal with the fallout for firing the pres's brother in law.

Right because the entire country will riot if OSU fired him.
As if he's "the people's coach" or something.
Nobody even knows the guy exists.

Re: Come on Super? (1 vote)
Not that I am recommending firing Robinson- because I am not, and want him signed to a long-term contract because he's as bad as Jay John, but there's no way that you can say that because of the condition of the Beaver program was when Robinson came in is an excuse to keeping Robinson on this long. He's a bad coach, but he has had a great deal MORE talent than Oregon has since he has been there, and that's not up for debate. He's gotten the great recruits in, but his problem stems from his being unable to do anything with them and not knowing what he and his program needs or wants to be. What are they? What's his style and focus? If you don't know what you are as a program and try to build around that, then you aren't going to win. He came in with the Princeton style of offense and having the players that he inherited to try to run that, but after his first year or so, he abandoned that, and went more up tempo with his fast-style that recruits that he got that wanted to play that way, but it's still not working there. The truth is, it doesn't take long to turn a program around in basketball- only about 2 years, and he's had 5 now. Arizona Basketball was an even WORSE dumpster fire than OSU before Olson got to Tucson, and look at what happened there within 2 years. He can't be fired now because Soetoro is sadly still in the White House, so they are screwed in Corvallis. DeCarolis needs to sign him to a 10 year contract so we can continue to beat them on a regular basis.

Coach "Rob" is a great fit at OSEwe.
Go Bervs! Losing the right way since forever!

I think writers should keep their noses out of it....
The stories when Chip was doing well early on. Canzano kept saying that "he was going." He was right eventually and I am sure Ken Goe will be some time as well.
Much like Riley, Robinson is a good guy. Riley wins more.

Yeah, right. That is another of your "insightful" observations. BTW, no one said anything about impact outside of the beev program, but even you should be able to understand their reluctance. I have several friends who are large donors at OSU, and they want him gone, but don't want to deal with the publicity.

Is this what passes for insight?
First you say nobody is saying it will have an effect outside of Oregon, then you say they don't want the publicity cause you know some fans.
What are you talking about?
Nobody and I mean NOBODY will care if they fire him.
He's the answer to a local trivia question and that's it.

Re: OS basketball has declined (2 votes)
I believe the article stated that he had three more years on his contract. I doubt that unless some wealthy donors step up to buy out his contract that he will be going anywhere for at least two years. I'm guessing that he will be leaving about the time that his brother in law finishes up his term in Washington. Not that that is a bad thing given his mediocre job performance up to this point.

Re: Come on Super?
I merely pointing out the fact that the team went farther under Jay John than it has under Robinson. Robinson has been able to bring in better talent than John, but has done absolutely nothing with that talent. As for actual coaching ability I'm not sure Robinson is any better. --------------------------------------------- --- phlduck wrote: Jay John also left Coach Rob an absolute dumpster fire. I'm not denying your premise, just that Olson is probably not a good comparison. Olson had taken Iowa to 5 straight NCAA's including a Final Four. Lute had a reputation from Iowa to assist him in recruiting that Robinson can't match. Though, Olson was also a better X and O coach than Robinson and that certainly helped.
The turnaround at Pitt when Ben Howland arrived from Northern Arizona Univ. might be a better comparison...which obviously led to Howland being hired by UCLA.

Re: Ken Goe talks of replacing Robinson at OSu?
The biggest fallout would be his payout, funded by the State,.....again, but the media will ignore it, because paying a recruiting service 25 grand using Athletic funds and NO state money is more egregious than paying off the SECOND basketball coach millions of dollars WITH STATE MONEY!!!!
