It's official....DD to the Eagles

Should be able to help the other QB's transition to CK's offense.

I wonder if the Eagles are still looking at drafting Geno Smith or if they will address other needs (e.g., offensive line), now that they signed Vick and DD.

May as well sign Darron Thomas too.  Foles is decent but he's a pocket passer, and doesn't  fit Chip's schemes very well.

Yeah, but... isn't he like 7 foot 13?

Nope that's Brock Osweiler and he's.... a very disappointing 6'7''.

Foles is head and shoulders better than DT, at the pro level. The real question is, given Chips statement that the QB position is open to competition, will that include DD, or is he going in to be a backup?

Dixon is on a non-guaranteed deal, but unless the Eagles like somebody in the draft, I imagine he'll be the 3rd (emergency) QB, because of his familiarity with the offense and skillset in running it.

Dixon will probably battle for #3 spot while Foles will battle Vick for the starting job.   Everyone needs to stop assuming that Chip's system with the Eagle will be the same as his system at Oregon.   Foles may very well  fit with what Chip wants to do.

Or more like if Foles is the best QB, Chip may fit his system very well with what Foles can do.

I don't think Chip would have brought back Vick and signed Dixon if he intended to mold an offense around Foles. Foles will have to win the job in some variation of Chip's offense, first, and then Chip might tailor some stuff around him.

I'm getting visions of Brady Leaf running Chip's offense, though, and Foles will probably be on the trading block after OTAs, and maybe even before the draft. Eagles could probably get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him if they try hard enough.

I lived in DC when Spurrier Post Rating (2 votes)

transitioned from college. One of his first moves was to acquire Jesse Palmer. "Jesse was successful in my system at Florida, and I believe he'll be successful here."

Thud.

I believe Chip is more likely to succeed in the pros than the other visor, but this also feels like a coach who's trying to move Autzen to Philly.

I don't see that at all. DD so far has been the best (IMO) QB in CK's system as far as tempo and command go. I think he was merely brought in to be used as an example of how CK wants things done.

Yeah, I see it more as a guy to help Vick grasp the offense, at least in terms of reads and terminology.

Dixon won't be the starter, unlike Spurrier bringing in some of his noodle-armed QBs and throwing them into NFL games.

Spurrier brought a bunch of his college staff to DC.

Chip only brought Coach Azz and some GAs, and made the rest of his staff out from other programs and the NFL.

Dixon has been on an NFL roster in some form for the past 5 years. They do not waste those on talentless idiots.

In Pittsburg he never was really given an opportunity. Before we make him a glorified coach or a definite third string lackey, lets give the guy a shot.

RE: It's official....DD to the Eagles

He started 3 games for the Steelers. Lost to Baltimore when he failed to see the drop end in the flat and threw the game losing INT. Started 2 games when BR was suspended beating Atl and got hurt vs Tenn.

He wasn't going to unseat a 2 time SB winning QB. Pittsburgh drafted him in Rd 6 and he left as a free agent after 3 nondescript years.

Dixon had an opportunity in Pittsburgh and just couldn't get it done.  There's a reason why he fell behind guys like Byron Leftwitch and Charlie Batch on the depth chart.  Also worth noting is that he couldn't find an active roster gig last season after four years in the league.

I'm a Dennis Dixon fan, but I'm also realistic about his chances.  There's a much better chance of him not making the team than there is of him being a starter or even the number 2 guy.

Chips system of 2007 is nothing like Chips system of 2012 and might be nothing like the one for 2013. So assuming DD will fit right in, or help other QB's in some way is a little off. No one knows what type of system he's going to run in the NFL.

While we don't know exactly what type of offense the Eagles will run, CK knows exactly what his plan is and the fact that he kept Michael Vick and signed DD should tell us something.

This drives me nuts. I see it so much that I'm starting to think I'm crazy.

"Chip's Offense" does not have to rely on a QB running the damn zone read option. A pocket passing QB is just as good. The play calling changes a bit not the pace or the misdirection or the creativity and not the attitude.

Christ, people who think this are really selling the man short. He is a fantastic ALL-AROUND football coach.
