RE: How is Alabama able to sign so many players?

Wow. Massive misinformation in this thread.

I'm sure Oregon is the only school in the NCAA that has never had someone fail to qualify to enroll. Simply put, not everyone that signs a LOI has the grades to get into college. Lots of kids wind up going to JUCO or prep school. Must be an SEC phenomenon.

Saban is very old-school. You toe the line in class and on the practice field, you have no problems. Heck, we've got RS juniors that have never played except in the last 5 minutes of a blowout, and they're still on the team. You give Saban lip, or loaf in practice, or don't make grades, or miss workouts - you have The Meeting, and you WILL correct whatever you're doing wrong. Of course, that doesn't fit in with the existing predisposition of "disposable players".

Saban cannot give scholarships to girlfriends. He can suggest, but the girlfriends in question still have to go through the same process as everyone else applying for that scholarship. Just like Oregon does.

Saban can't give jobs to girlfriends. Where do you come up with this ridiculous stuff?

Alabama is not the only school to suggest a kid change school districts to get sufficient credits to graduate. The quality of education in a lot of the rural areas is just pitiful. It's not just an SEC thing, either, although it does seem to be more prominently mentioned when it's a southern school (again, pre-existing bias). I don't see any threads about Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, West Virginia or Pennsylvania - all of whom are on record for doing the same thing.

You want to know the secret to Alabama players' conditioning? Introduce yourself to Scott Cochran. An absolutely out-of-this-world S&C expert, total high-energy, nonstop motor kind of guy. Not to mention facilities that are better than any other college in the country. Not to mention full-time nutrionists who lay out plans for each individual player according to present condition, position being played, development that can be achieved, etc...

Oh, yeah. We only have 9 seniors and 3 "going to the NFL" juniors on our roster. That, of course, does not count the 7 or 8 RS juniors that have their degree and will be moving on after this semester. That also doesn't count the 2 or possibly 3 freshmen that are rumored to be academically ineligible after this semester (dammit, college is not an endless party!).

Why don't you guys just face it. Saban is a 24 / 7 / 365 head football coach, a planner to the last excruciating detail, the conductor of a smoothly functioning machine. He doesn't take time off. He doesn't rest on his laurels. He knows exactly where the team is, how it got there, and what is necessary to keep them functioning at peak efficiency. He is simply the best coach in the business, head and shoulders above anyone else, and I'm damn glad he's coaching our team. All your envy, fear and jealousy is simply petty caterwauling that your program and coach aren't as good, aren't willing to work as hard, and you want to drag us down to your level so you can "compete". Here's a suggestion. Why don't you work harder and drag yourself up to our level?

Hey, Vol fan. You guys haven't been relevant since before Fulmer left. When are you going to be competitive again? As for cheating..... Fulmer and TennStud (prominent Memphis area Tennessee boster) wrote the book on cheating. We could never in our wildest dreams aspire to reach the heights you did during the 90's.

See,

I don't remember the last kid USC signed that didn't get in because of grades. A few get hung up for a while in the clearing house

Why would you waste a LOI on a kid who's not getting in?

Answer: It's not wasted [wink, wink] Oh and in the SEC there's not really a limit to the LOI's (yes, I know it's officially 28) schools can sign

You mean we haven't been good for several years? WOW! I didn't realize!? Typical bammer though, delusional. You guys are on top for sure and saban is a great coach, who cheats just like bear bryant did. I look forward to your inevitable downfall.

And the doofus you said helped fulmer is a disassociated booster, who has no relationship with the university. Unlike the one you guys had who paid for albert means. Remember nothing lasts forever...
