25 this year, didn't they sign nearly 30 the year before and 32 not too long ago? How can this equal 85 scholarships.... Does the NCAA just not care?

Re: How is Alabama able to sign so many players? (1 vote)
Previous signees are subject to being recruited over and then dismissed (processed) for various reasons to keep the numbers right.
Saban is notorious for pushing the envelope when it comes to compliance. The practice isn't illegal, but is it ethical?
Bama has always cheated in some fashion. In the era of unlimited scholarships Bryant would take all the players he could get, not because he wanted to play them but to keep others from getting them.
You can bet they are cheating now, Saban is just smart enough to keep it off the books. Moving kids from one high school to another in state so they can get their grades right. Giving scholarships or jobs to girlfriends and family members.
You really want to see something notice the build of the players. Either their S&C coach has a secret or they are juicing in some fashion.
Of course a lot of teams do this, bama is just better at it because they have had so much practice.

Plus the NCAA caters to the moneymaker SEC so they are allowed more leniance.

I've heard the same thing as noted by vol above; saban gets "attrition" from players that don't contribute; in a sense, he truly views a scholarship as 1 year at a time (maybe not quite that severe, but moreso than other programs)

Maybe they have a problem because no one in the athletic department has been able to count to 25.

I saw it recently in print somewhere, don't remember exzctly where, that Georgia signed 32 reruits in this year's claas. I don't undersand how this works; isn't it the rule that there are only 25 signees permitted per class?

Some could be early entries (count against last year's class) and some could become grey shirts (enroll next January).

Scholarships are for one year. If you're not as good as they thought they replace you.
It's something that will be practiced more and more. Saban doesn't have four NC's by accident.

Re: How is Alabama able to sign so many players?
If this the case it is a recent occurrence. We have been the step child of CFB for a long time. Just like every west coast team not named usc or ucla in years past. Now that the sportswriters are not determining who is the best or gets to play for the title we are surging. A lot of that has to do with the demographics of recruiting. Lots and lots of talent located in the southeast.
Like all things it will end. Heck the big 10 may actually win a title again once they quit crying about it not being handed to them by the pollsters anymore. If I were a betting man I would bet on Oregon being the next team not in the SEC to win a title. ACC is no threat, big 10 isn't, usc is impolding, ucla still isn't there yet, big 12 maybe but they have fallen down some lately.
As an aside, I will never pull for bama regardless. In the title game this year I was pulling for the meteor.

The NCAA just doesn't care. Alabama has 300 scholarships.

Re: How is Alabama able to sign so many players? (1 vote)
The key is early entries. If you don't have room, you run off under performers. The SEC coaches get a lot of their JC recruits and early HS graduates into school for the midterm so they can count against the previous class. Take a look at Georgia, they signed something like 35 recruits but have a lot of room because they only took 19 last year. Keep in mind that in the SEC usually some of your class doesn't qualify either...

Here is an article explaining why they can ONLY sign 25 players now. Interesting how they use to sign so many more in the past. Other articles discuss how the SEC coaches weren't for this new SEC rule. The coaches wanted to be able to sign 28. www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/20...e_with_new.html

Re: How is Alabama able to sign so many players?
At least Georgia had the ships sitting there unused to give out
Bama had only 12 players off last year's team graduate or leave early 9 Sr 3 Jr
God knows they were full before that
They still signed 25 LOI (26?) this year
It's a friggin JOKE and the NCAA will do nothing even though they are supposedly the ones who are supposed to be making sure we ALL play by the same rules so there is no "competitive advantage" or departure from "amateur status". God knows kids not even TRYING to get an education are still amateurs. [roll eyes]

Re: How is Alabama able to sign so many players?
That 25 number is SO loosy goosey They say they can still early enroll to get over 25 in a year But if you signed 25 4 years running how can you EVER apply a new kid to the previous year without oversigning/going over 25? You CAN'T --------------------------------------------- --- Duckloyalist wrote: Here is an article explaining why they can ONLY sign 25 players now. Here's what I don't understand (1 vote)
Obviously not all players are lasting 4 full years at schools like Bama. They get 25 recruits a year, play with the numbers and don't renew schollies to the lesser talented players.
How is their APR scores not so low where they lose scholarships?
Same with Kentucky in basketball. They constantly get one and done players, how in the heck do they have an APR score that does not reduce schollies?

Obviously Saban plans to run off some under performers and grayshirt some of the new class. It can get pretty ruthless.
